when selling an upper do I have to remove the flash suppressor ?

I am thinking of selling off the upper for my registered AR. Do I have to make the upper compliant by removing the flash hider?

my understanding that it's up to the person assembling the complete firearm to be compliant. Am I wrong about that ?
