Why do some FFLs stay away from OLLs?

    Just as the title says.
I'm just wondering why some FFLs are worried about certain transfers such as Aks and ARs. I thought that as long as it was within law its A OK.

There seems to be mention of GRAY areas, but then I ask myself GRAY areas?
What about the FFLs that don't mind these transfers? Same laws but what GRAY areas? Some transfer with no problems.

Are some just scared. Could it be because its not entirely legal? Are some FFLs not up on CA law?

No. I"m not trying to bash anyone, or any FFLs that might be against this.
    Just a bit curious..

    Whats the deal? Thanks.

Not everyone is into everything.... just like not all car dealerships are into selling motorcycles... altho some may...

Scared + not up on the law is probably most of it.

When a CA FFL has a question on CA law, who must he call? CA-DOJ. It appears to be policy at CA-DOJ to be as obscure and non-responsive as possible about OLLs.

If a non-lawyer can't get a clear answer from the agency charged with regulating his business, what is the prudent, conservative reaction? Many seem to choose to take no risks; I think that's understandable.

Like librarian said, fear and misinformation seem to be most of it. How about some FFL's that will sell AR OLL's but not AK's.. Stigma maybe? Same laws apply to the AK platform.

+1 million what librarian said, asked my FFL and he said he did not understand the configuration/adons/what ever else was on, with, or why so he passes on them.
It's OK as he does not say outright that they are illeagle just he wont mess with them.

I know a FFL who won't touch anything related to AK's. No receivers, no rifles not even Saigas. But if you need a stripped lower or just about any type of OLL (AR) he's game. His FFL his rules.

He told me it stems from the SKS "M" and "D"(detachable AK mags). First the DOJ said it's all good only to change their minds laterand then telling the FFL to track down any and all SKS D&M's that he may have transferred or sold.

Mind you the DOJ wanted HIM to do the leg work for something they said was OK but later said NO GO. He just didn't want to go through that nightmare again, can you blame him? He's a good guy and will do his best to track down what you want, just no AK's.

Are you not a bit curious as well as to why they don't walk into numerous FFL's and start arresting the dealers that sell and transfer oll's?

It's got to be getting old for some of those dealers. They've been saying "You're all going to jail" since 2005.

Once you've dealt with the DOJ some may feel its not worth the hassle. However when you are well stocked with very competent legal counsel the fear factor is lowered (but the retainers are a B1TC#!)
