    Dros gone bad

Bought a gun Picked it up a couple of days ago. Now I get a call the CCW card I used on the Dros was expired and now it needs to be reDrosed. Since I don't have a current one and yes another 10 days with it locked up at the store. Is this normal? Apparently, I am going to have to use a firearms safety certificate or a hunting licence. I am sure those are both expired as well.

Sucks they didn't catch that, but ultimately that's your fault for not keeping things current.

Go get a FSC. Email them a copy and tell them to do a DROS correction. No way I would let them take the gun and start all over.

And who lets their CCW expire in this state, and if so why do they still carry it around in their wallet like it is useful for something?

        ^ This.

I'm not to sure why it would need to go through DROS, again when it already cleared. All the CCW got you out of was the need for an FSC and safety demo. Like SkyHawk says they should be able to do a correction adding in the FSC number.

If it's a handgun and you used the CCW as your second proof of address, I believe you'll need to bring another way to verify address in also.

Mine was expired for 11 days before my renewal appointment (due to appointment availability or lack thereof). I left it in my wallet because I had to turn it in when I picked up my new one.

Man, I have a stack of expired CCW cards. Only once have they asked me to turn in the expired one when picking up the new one.

                Weird.

Same here, but they mail me the renewals.

When did it expire? If it was current at the time the DROS was submitted ,I don't see why there is a problem.

San Diego requires that you turn in the old one.

First, perhaps you should find out if the other docs are expired before you slit your wrists, eh? It gets simpler if they aren't.

Next, your FFL has skin in this game, as they also have responsibility to not accept expired documentation. That still makes you "First Dummy", but they are in the game, too.

Presuming this "gun" is a handgun (If the "gun" is a long gun or shotgun, then delete the need for secondary residency.):

As noted in prior posts, the CCW:
                        -replaces the need for an FSC and the Safe Handling Demo;
-fulfills the need for a second proof of residency when purchasing a handgun.

Step 1: Pay your FFL to administer the FSC test.
Step 2: Provide the FFL with a second proof of residency. Utility bills from within the last 90 days, property deeds, lease or rental agreements, or government issued permits (un-expired), licenses (un-expired) or registrations are acceptable proofs of residency that meet the CA handgun residency requirements.
Step 3: Have the FFL correct the DROS, applying the FSC and the new secondary residence document.
Step 4: Once all provisions are in place, and DOJ has accepted the corrections, take the gun back to the FFL to perform the handling demo. (It could move fast, so have the gun in the trunk).

                        Good luck.

Did you not know your CCW was expired?

How the heck did you not know it was expired?

Aren't DROs in real time? It doesn't sound like it went through when you did it in the first place.
