Knob Creek machine gun shoot ending

Sad news. The semi annual celebration of freedom in Bullit county is coming to an end this fall. This notice posted pretty much says it all. No doubt it will be missed by many of us who used to hunt the pole barn for parts to keep our old guns going. This notice posted by Kenny pretty much says...

Saw this on Gunboards. The thread mentions other shoots like Knob Creek in Ohio and Oklahoma.

Sad to hear. I intend to go as I have three friends taking their Stuart tanks with live 37mm main guns and live m1919's and they owe me a fun shoot!

Never been to one but John Ross' characters in his book Unintended Consequences were frequent participants. I understand the community portrayed and it would be a disservice to myself NOT to attend this fall, if I can.

This cannot be the end of an era because of what it might mean to the momentum of the anti-gun/anti-freedom cancer in this country.

Twice a year is a lot of work to put on an event like that. I appreciate the great times Ive there when visiting and its always a pleasure to visit with Kenny.
One last chance for me to participate in the jungle walk shotgun event.
Californians will be pleasantly surprised with the polite, friendly and courteous people in Kentucky.

I surmise the event will be held on occasion, when so many request it be continued. Probably after fair elections are held.

At least ABC or other Network will not be able to use new Knob Creek footage as an attack on our allies after Trump ended another endless war.

"ABC has apologized after it showed footage of a Kentucky firing range’s pyrotechnic machine gun shoot and called it video of bombing in northern Syria...

The network framed the video as a battle between the Syrian Kurds and Turkish forces, but internet sleuths quickly found it was from Knob Creek Gun Range in West Point. The gun range video was posted about three years ago..."

Nice guys at ABC ! ya think !

As an aside, Gaggle did not like the idea this typical news story is remembered. lol

Here's one of many videos available on YouTube. This discusses the history of Knob Creek.

Another one bites the dust. SOF almost 20 years ago.

If you go, take sturdy boots. Every place is covered with loose shale type of rocks that have edges like razor blades. I wore tennis shoes and by the end of the first day I could barely walk. It felt like my feet were half chopped to pieces.

Went to this shoot back in 2003. Should be a part of everybody's bucket list.

Take lots of cash for the gun show. There will be stuff you don't see anywhere else. Think ahead of time about how you might ship stuff home.

Pace yourself all day long if you want to see the evening shootoffs, because they don't start until almost dark.

The event features lots of amateur shooting competitions too. Some shooters are really great and they happily share tips to help the novice types, like me to get better.
Also many NFA shooters will permit you to shoot their guns for a fee. I've never done it but heard others talk about the fun it is.

Check the site and see if something is of interest and keep in mind this is probably the last time to see this event.

I've noticed camping tents and RVs. Not sure how it works as we always get a hotel.

I rented some time on an MG42 but it wasn't a lot of fun because it was locked into a T&E. Couldn't even use the sights, just pulled the trigger. I suggest the Uzi Jungle Walk if it's still going on. It's a decent value and you trudge through the forest blasting away at targets of opportunity.

The subgun matches are kinda interesting but very unrealistic because the stages have like 50 targets.

They don't have it every year, but I spent big bucks to ride in a Vietnam era loche. It was worth it. Even with 4 fatties onboard I was surprised at how well it performed. 100+ mph (I could see the instruments), yanking and banking along the creek. Nothing quite like hanging your knee in the breeze at that speed (the doors were off).

Bring your walking boots because everything is spread out among a very large complex.
