    Loaded magazines on airplane??

Flying in a couple of weeks for a match.
When checking a firearm in a LOCKED case can I also have loaded magazines in the same case as long as there is NO magazine in the firearm??

Check with your airlines online. They all have a little different rule. I have flown many times with guns. My advise is get a bigger case. Keep your ammo in original cartridge boxes and have your empty magazines in with the rest. The firearm can be present. For less scrutiny have a trigger lock on the gun.

Some airlines have a policy that say no loaded mags and ammo must be in original cardboard box. American for example.

IMO it is not worth it to have loaded mags and then try and educate a rando front line worker on the TSA and airline policies. I just want to catch my flight. So for me that means empty mags, and ammo in a factory box.

^^^^This. I don't see any reason to have loaded magazines in the case with the gun. It just creates an opportunity for an unfamiliar with guns, ignorant counter attendant to create problems for you.

I just put a 50 round box of self-defense ammo into the case and call it a day.

Most want Ammo in a crush proof container and separate from gun

I always read and print both airline and TSA policy

Too often some cities - San Jose- will demand your keys and want to play with the gun out of your sight

            Thats illegal.

            No TSA locks on guns
            Passenger keeps possession of keys.
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
            (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

I have flown with loaded mags (SWA) but it will virtually guarantee they will ask to open the case and inspect. It will delay you a bit.
