how much do law enforcement tasers cost.

just on the news but 1.2 million for 100 body/car cams and 72 tasers.
sounds like a pork filled deal. or do law enforcement tasers cost that much?
as even top of the line body /car cams are not that costly

i do say good for the officers. just not sure about the cost.

body and car cams are expensive. You need networks to connect them to servers when they come back in, a big charging rack for body cams, **TONS** of data storage for the video that has to be archived for who knows how long, plus indexing and logging, stations to review the video when needed, software/hardware maintenance etc.

This is why a lot of departments still don't have it - the price of the actual cameras is peanuts compared to the infrastructure to support the effective operation of the cameras.

And Tasers need training before being deployed, so that may also be part of the contract price.

      Car cams

What does it cost to wire - install - the car

What is the annual cost as I think the video is uploaded via cell towers
And how much storage does a department need.

In a 12 hour shift, how many GB of video are uploaded

2 officers cameras and a cars camera.

That’s got to be a lot of data storage
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

These cameras also create official records. Lots of them. Typically that means you will need more staff to support these records. With cameras come lots of additional public record requests. Someone has to handle that.

They also create evidence, which can mean a whole new department being created - aka video evidence unit. That unit will need staff and supervisors.

You can find a bunch of real contracts online, here is just one example.

The approximate costs to proceed with a five-year contract are: $875,782.27 for year one of the body camera program
o $359,104.41 Axon Contract year one
        • $252,643.10 (for 125 cameras plus 4 spares —
        Deployment 1)
        $89,168.00 (for 50 cameras — Deployment 2)
        • $17,293.31 (total tax of contract divided by five years)
o $63,360.00 voice and data plan for 120 phones
o $109,797.75 Salary and Benefits for digital media technician
o $343,520.11 Salary and Benefits for an additional Police Lieutenant
        • $716,914.l6foryeartwo
        o$198,781.31 Axon Contract yeartwo

        0198,781.31 Axon Contract year five
        • $181,488.00 (year five)

0 $111,121.26 Salary and Benefits for digital media technician
0 $347,660.93 Salary and Benefits for an additional Police Lieutenant

Total cost for five-year contract - $3,752,211.14 (approximately)
        Average annual cost = $750,442.23
The initial purchase order for this was similar to what you asked about, $1.2M but you can see the 5 year cost is much more. Just look at the price for a single new Police Lt - $350k/yr!

Who knows how the one you are looking at breaks down - but you should be able to find out, it is likely a public record.

There's usually a maintenance plan as part of the price.
