Wasn’t sure where to put this.
While watching forged in fire, I was curious how much the Ballistics Dummy’s cost. The ones with the blood filled organs and skeleton inside. I figured a few thousand and I was close. A website sells them for $2,000. Then I came back to earth and wanted to shoot some new defensive rounds into standard ballistics gel. Buying a block costs roughly $150-$250, and I’m sure shipping isn’t cheap either.
Anyway, I found a youtube video that had a very concise and straight forward method for home-made ballistics gel. The FBI uses a method of a .177 BB @ 10’ to penetrate 3 3/4”. This home-made method proved to come within 5% of that. Also, the method looks easier than making Mac and cheese. I haven’t tried it yet but wanted to share the recipe and video.
Recipe:
9L Boiling Water
2L Gelatin Powder
Materials Needed:
Water, Gelatin, Pot(s) or method of heating water to 212F+, a mold, egg-beater or mixing utensil to mix solution, refrigerator to set mold.
I haven’t been to the range in a while so I think its time for me to gather some interesting targets, including a Ballistics Gel Block!
