No law against it. Unloaded in locked case with ammo OK. Up to company if they own the truck.

          Why?

By the time you accessed it, loaded it, and made it ready, it is likely that any life or death self-defense exigency would have already run its course, and pre-deploying would likely violate one or more of California's crazyily complex laws. IANAL, just a guy on the Interwebs.

Sounds like you need to apply for a CC permit.

You may want to check if there are federal issues. I do know that over the road truckers are regulated federally but may not for just in state. It is a commercial vehicle and you may not have the same rights as a personal vehicle.

Not really a handgun question, so moved.

And, the thread has skipped past the legalities to the wisdom/practicality, so moved to General Guns.

As already noted, "I keep it and it’s loaded mags in a pistol locked box" is legal transport and no destination requirements apply to transport in a vehicle.

He never leaves the state. The only Fed deal would be if he started crossing state lines.

You should apply for ccw. Worse thing that happens is you are out $200.
There is nothing better than legally carrying everywhere you go. Pay the extra $60 for the 32 state Utah or Arizona license when you take your class and be able to carry almost anywhere you go.

OP, it may help to list what county you live in. Maybe you’re apply to apply for a CCW.

If pre-deploying your handgun in a developing situation that you cannot escape would violate the law, then so would using it in self defense. It isn't too hard to think about a situation while in your car that isn't a sudden robbery or car jacking where you have time to make ready.

Point being, when you fear for your life, you aren't going to be worried about the law.

If your employer finds out you are not wearing the required pink tutu on Tuesdays, it can also fire you.

An employer might fire a worker for any violation of a work rule, or 'just because' -
