I would imagine that if a tool is required to remove it, it would be legal. If it can be removed by hand only, then not legal.

Well, that would suck as there are probably thousands of them out there.

Do you have a source from where you heard this?

According to this thread, it requires a screwdriver for removal.

Atf does not care about CA laws

          ATF is federal

It would be the CAlifornia department of justice DOJ who might rule on something

Might help searching for item and ca DOJ
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

I have a few. You need to depress a little tab, with a knife or screwdriver before being able to slide it off.

I owned one and used it on a rifle I used in 3 gun competitions in Oregon. It was nice as it was an easy swap once up north then back into compliance for transport. In my experience the backfin required the screw driver for removal maybe the first four times, then it would just pop off and on after that.
Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.

Well, that's not good. From a legal perspective, that is.

I had those as well. Terrible design for 100% legality as it is can be slipped on and off while installed. The grip itself is awesome in a free state but the version I got had a ridiculous piece of plastic as a retaining pin and did not 100% secure the fin. Thumb restore snapped off because its a 3d printed item. I secured it with a screw from the back into the MAID grip. Ended up ditching it for the one piece fin grip style.

Loved mine...very natural and comfy grip. Drill a 3/16" hole, install a set screw. Must use a tool to remove!

Why would the ATF issue a change or ruling on a state law issue regarding so-called assault weapons?

And someone please link to where any document says it's a NO GO unless you need a tool to remove it. Seems like there was speculation in post 2 then everyone ran with it.
