When doing a PPT transfer what is the state looking at?

If seller has an unregistered handgun from another state but is a CA resident and wants to sell to another CA resident what would happen in theory, asking for a friend of course...

In theory the state could go after the seller for importing without a license. Depending on date of manufacture etc. it could be an easy case to make.

We already have the only reasonable Gun Control we need, It's called the Second Amendment and it's the government it controls.

Nothing happened when I sold a fnp9 that I brought into the state when I was active duty. Assuming the gun isn't reported stolen, I doubt anything would happen.

Is it illegal to move here there with a gun you bought elsewhere? I don't think it is, but I admit I often lose track of CA's many nutcase rules. In your friend's case, I think it would be perfectly legal to go PPT and DROS the gun and after ten days, pick it up now registered in your friend's name.

I think what the state looks at more than anything is the firearms being stolen or used in a crime, and the basic background check of the purchaser.
Buy made in USA whenever possible.

          No, not illegal.

If you are not active duty, when you move here with guns you are supposed to file the New Resident paperwork or sell the guns or turn them in to LE. See the wiki,http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/in..._with_firearms

(If you already live here, it IS generally illegal to go out of state and bring back a gun, unless it passes through a CA FFL - that's Federal and CA law.)

But 'registered' is not a generally-required attribute of guns in CA. Transfer through an FFL for handguns was not required until 1991, long guns in 2014. Those actions will create a record in CA's AFS database, which is as 'registered' as most guns in CA get.

So, for the moment, ownership/registration of a gun sold PPT is not checked, because registration is not required.

ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!
