    Targets?

What do you guys use for targets at outdoor ranges or BLM land?

    Besides tannerite.
Do you have anything home made?
I need something to take up to arrowhead fish and game.
The first time I went up there, I took a cardboard box and put a shoot-n-c target on it. It was pretty ghetto.

You mean target stands? I make my own from 2x4's for the bases, 1x2's for the uprights, then staple a large piece of cardboard to tape paper targets to or staple an IPSC cardboard target to the uprights. I'll try to take some pictures for you.

Stuff printed from here: http://www.targetz.com/ or Zombie targets or just bad fruit, various containers, steel gongs?

For actual targets, I have all my own. They are either from hard copies that I copy, ones I made myself on the computer, or some ones I print from an old Leupold target program for PC.

          Target stands, targets, steel?
I don't really have anything. I need something to shoot at. I've heard bowling pins are fun, but I can't find any.

I make my own cheap target stands out of wood. They are so cheap that you can make a whole bunch of them. At one point, we had close to 40 of these setups we would use for action shooting stages. You can make these out of the cheapest 2x4 and 1x2 lumber at Home Depot

              Each stand requires:

              1 - 2"x4" x 96"
              1 - 1"x2" x 96"
              - additional scrap 1x2, about 4-6 inches worth
              - 3" to 4" drywall screws

Cut the 2x4 into 4 equal sections of 2 feet each. Cut the 1x2 in half so you have 2- 4 foot sections. Screw together the base with the 2x4 sections as shown. Use 2 scrap pieces of 1x2 to go between the two "on edge" 2x4 pieces so the target uprights can be inserted between the 2x4's later. You can use an additional piece of scrap wood about 1/16 to 1/8 to add thickness to the 1x2 spacers to add a little clearance for the uprights.

Use the 2- 4 foot pieces of 1x2 as your uprights to staple your cardboard target backing or IPSC style target to.

Targets can be just about anything including 9" paper plates with a sticky dot in the center, or you can print just about anything on standard copy paper.

Big sack of russet potatoes. Cheap reactive targets that biodegrade. Or build target stands like SCMA-1 suggested.

Pepsi is real cheap these days. 25 or 30 cents a can. Very nice reactive target. Small enough to throw for shotgunning. Get diet, less sticky to clean them up afterward.

I make stands out of PVC pipe and connectors. A 12 foot piece costs $1.14and connectors are a few bucks for a pack of 10. The pieces fit together tight, so you dont have to glue them...they just press together. Its easy to cut PVC with a $2 hacksaw blade to and if you shoot a section, it takes about 10 seconds to repair it with a spare piece (unless you glued it, then your screwed).

I tape the bad guy targets on it with regular scotch tape or whatever is cheap and dont need to use cardboard.

For bowling pins, just go to your local bowling alley and ask if they have any worn out pins for sale. Bowling alleys replace their pins periodically and the old ones are just trash to them, so offer to buy them for $1-2 a piece. They can take quite a beating, even from shotguns and rifles.

Also, fresh fruit is in season so a melon is only gonna cost you a couple bucks. They are fun to destroy and you don't have to worry about cleanup. They can attract any bugs that are in the area, though.

You can also set up clay birds to shoot. Buy the biodegradable ones and you don't have to worry about clean up.

I have some old metal speaker I got from some work I'm doing. They are pretty heavy so I plan on build a wood stand and hang them with wire and electric tape.

                              Ok Here is my offering.

I saw a guy out at the range with a smaller one in his truck.
When I got home I made a set a little bigger with thicker metal from memory.
They even fold for easy storage.

A couple of the big tent nails and they stay put nicely.
