    Background check question

Why do they ask you your race when you buy a firearm and ammunition?

What difference does your race make?

Make sure the race matches the name, matches what is already on file.

And for government tracking of demographics for who is/are purchasing firearms (black 50 year old females vs white 50 year old males). Nothing nefarious.

No doubt they will soon ask for one's preferred pronouns and boxes to indicate biological gender and gender identity.

....and some will struggle with the questions.

Yup first time I bought a gun back in 2013, I asked what am I suppose to be. He said choose anything you want.
I ended up as a Caucasian Hispanic.

Here's what ATF has to say:

Why does ATF Form 4473 ask for race and ethnicity?

The purpose for requiring prospective purchasers of firearms to identify their racial and ethnic background is to aid law enforcement in accurately tracing firearms found in crimes and better enable Federal firearms licensees to identify the purchaser during the background check portion of a firearms transaction. To collect this identifying information, ATF was required to follow the race and ethnicity standards and format for administrative forms and records established by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). These standards were first published by OMB in the Federal Register on October 30, 1997, and became effective on January 1, 2003.

A previous 4473 form had a blank section in the 'race' question, I always checked it and wrote in, "White Guy"

Years ago, GFOS in Dublin used to have you fill out a log to buy reloading components. It asked for your name and signature (I don't recall it asking for an address or any ID number like a drivers license), and the guy had to see an ID. I asked if people used their actual names on the log, and the guy replied "I don't care. They just make me have you fill it out. I don't check."

Anyway, Mickey Mouse apparently buys powder and primers.
