    Ammo availability May 2021 Edition

    Yes another thread on this

I stopped looking for ammo a while back and recently got a 357 mag rifle that I needed ammo for. When I started looking I immediately noticed that there are 357 mag ammo readily available now vs end of 2020. I also checked and the availability of other popular cartridges was also much better, a lot more options for 9/45/223/556 than before.

Prices have gone down from the crazy $1 per round of ball ammo for about anything to the 50-60c range for 9, 70-80c ranges or 45 and similar for 223/556. I'm not talking about the lucky box you can sometimes score at a big retailer/range, but the more generally available ammo. Still not good, but at least going down. I doubt we will see the 25-35cpr for a very long time if ever.

I hope we see 9 going to the 40cpr range, and 45/223/556 in the 50cpr range. 22LR will likely take a lot longer to get back to more normal availability, it still seems pretty limited.

Hopefully availability and prices will keep improving over the summer.

As a side note firearms availability seemed to have improved since sprig this year, still not great, but much better. Can at least find stuff at MSRP.

Anyway trying to get the weekend started on a more positive note

I appreciate that sentiment. Positivity is a great thing

Was at a local Bass Pro last weekend to pick up some lifejackets and decided to check ammo supply. Had at least 3k rounds of 556, a dozen boxes of 9mm, and no line for ammo at 5pm so it had been out on the floor likely for a while. Things are definitely getting better.

Side note: 357 is crazy easy to reload, and with a rifle you can really exploit all that potential. Even with current hugely inflated costs of components you're able to make high quality ammo for $.30-.40 per round.

The indoor range i went to yesterday had quite a bit of .223 and a lot of Tula 7.62. Of course everything was $1/round, but they had a lot of it. I think they buy what they can from whoever they can and resell, so they will never have really good prices.

^^^ Nonsense. I was at big 5 today lots of .223 or 5.56 80 cents to 2 bucks a round 10 cents a round for 22 lr to aguila for 16 cents a round. No 9mm or 45 acp.

I have definitely seen ammo lasting much longer at the online sellers at rates decidedly less than late 2020.

LGS clerks better have a smile and answers then. They always have customers and they can charge whatever price cause the guys at the end of the line will pay it. They can make a list and pass it out evenly but there's more money to be made with chaos...

Waiting for it to drop further before I buy. I have been getting emails from various vendors saying that the ammos on sale, and it’s still around .70cpr. Must mean it’s not moving ad well as it used to...

Maybe the opening of the new Remington ammo plant will help increase the availability...

Bass Pro had a bunch of 5.56, .223 and 7.62x51 when I was there last week. Hardly any pistol calibers and no 22LR at all though.

The 5.56 I saw was $99.99 for a 150 round range pack. Not amazing pricing but certainly better than $1 per round!
