Shooting prone with a fractured rib
sigpicLord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

Ouch, that sucks. I know whenever I shoot prone my ribs hurt a bit.
Maybe you can wear a compression shirt and padding, maybe even armor underneath. I'd let that thing heal otherwise it might cause breathing problems in the future? -
Vitamin D is not going to fix a broken bone, but it should help to strengthen them in the future.
What says your doctor??? That's what you need to know.

My idea would be to forego your next Appleseed and completely heal that rib...Comment

Shoot kneeling off a tripod until it heals. Maybe try putting a sand sock / rear bag under your sternum so that your body weight is on the sternum instead of the front of the ribs.

Get a rib binder, practice, warm up before laying down, first lay down on your back or side, then slowly roll into position. To relieve pressure that might be exerted on the tender area, utilize padding, rolled up towels, or clothing to raise your body up.
The best remedy, time, time to heal and recover. If you don't give it time, you could be jacked up 6 months +.
The ribcage is difficult to stabilize, need to chill out until your fully healed (or close to) and healthy.Comment

Don't take this as a cheap shot, not my intent.
If you MD didn't give you shooting advice, why not call him and ask, v. asking here. You know about opinions.
If I were you, and I'm not, I'd pass on further competition until my Dr. cleared me. I don't see an issue with sitting or standing and shooting, but again, I'm not the guy to give you an OK.True wealth is time. Time to enjoy life.
