    CA 'AR' sillyness

Asking for a friend that lives in CA (I moved to AZ 3 years ago).
I don't know the circumstances, just trying to answer his questions and I'm out the CA loop.
In order to not be an "assault weapon" (featureless) in CA the center fire rifle cannot have:
    -Flash-hider
    -Vertical forward grip
    -Pistol grip
    -Folding or collapsing stock
-Hold no more than 20 rounds.
What I'm unsure of is if it meets all the above, does it still have to be fixed mag or bullet buttoned?

10 rds and yes, a mag lock makes your AR look cool again.

Bullet button is not a solution now. Maglock, Compmag and one where you jam all the rounds into the breach are.

Thank you! I'll pass the information along.
I did the featureless, but the mag release changes occurred as we were moving.
        My firearms look correct now.

There's featureless (regular mag release) no evil features. And then there is maglocked (cannot remove magazine without disassembly of the action) evil features allowed.

I had featureless/standard release at the time. I'm not up to date on the CA mag release requirements.
Just trying to help another gun owner.
I don't know if he has one or is looking at one, I didn't ask.
Here's what mine used to look like

And again, if it does NOT have any of the above features, your friend can have a regular mag release. I only have a mag lock on one of my ARs and it's a semi pistol. Hate it. I have 2 uppers for it, 9mm and 556 so I have to run a maglock, no other solution.

If all the ops items have been addressed put a standard mag release on it. FUD fro the sauce guy on post 2. Featureless= no BB

Then it appears nothing has changed, other than registration if AW.
                  Groovy, passing along the information.
Thank you everyone for all the replies.

Registration of an AW is no longer an option. Go either featureless or fixed mag.

The primary change was that the bullet button was classified as "standard release" so rifles with BB-s suddenly had detachable magazines. The new definition of "fixed magazine" changed from "needing a tool to release magazine" to "having to open the action to release magazine."

Registration allowed rifles with BB to be registered as "assault weapons," becoming "registered assault weapons" (RAW-s) and therefore not having to deal with the whole AWB since they were now configured as AW-s *and* were allowed due to the registration.

The limit is 10 rounds, but it doesn't apply to featureless - you can use any legally possessed magazine in a featureless rifle. If you go the "fixed magazine" route, then the limit applies since rifles cannot have a "fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds."
