    Steel Targets

Other than "Action Targets" that show up in the ad banner on the top of all CG pages, do you guys have any recommendations where to shop for steel targets?

    1. Treat all guns as if loaded (even when you know they aren't).
    2. Never point the muzzle at anything you aren't willing to destroy.
    3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target.
    4. Know your target and what is beyond it (avoid all collateral damage).

You want to decide on a base then the targets. For example, if you want to stick with a sawhorse type stand then you need holes on each side. Wood or T post type, then one hole or even maybe just a hanger hole. How big do you need them? Close or far. Anything thicker than 3/8 is really not needed and may even not make a good sound. Too big and you're going to have to lug 20 to 30 lbs out to distance and set up a stand too... All mine have come from ebay and they've stood up to the test of time. Just make sure they have good reviews from many buyers.

            Dragon Targets.
Just make sure before you click "buy" that you know which hole size that you're buying.
The 1/2" carriage bolts that they sell hold up to direct impact of a lot of cartridges.
They don't sell carriage bolts for the 3/8" holes, and I found that 3/8" bolts just do not hold up.
After a day at the range, the bolt head sheared off, and there was no evidence of a direct hit on the head..

That being said, they free ship at $59, and the 3/8" AR500 steel held up to calibers from 22lr through .308 Win at 120 yards.

I bought my AR500 targets on ebay from a vendor named, hdsteeltargets. I bought 10 of his 1/2" thick 2" standing circles and 6 of his 1/2" thick 6" standing circles. I have used them for years with handguns and shotguns and I have no indication that they have any damage.

                Here's a target I make, it's a 10" square body with a 5" square head.
It's AR500, 3/8" thick. The riser is removable and the base folds up.It can also take a 18" wide cardboard target.
Easy to fit in a small car. I also make a non folding base.
                PM me if your interested.

                  Yup...Action Target.

These are great btw if you're looking for a wonderfully portable target without having to dork around with 2x4's and such.

I like the Highwild ones. I bought the stand with 2 ar500 targets for like $125 shipped. The targets don’t just hang straight, they angle them slightly towards the ground which I like for safety. They also use all readily available hardware from like Home Depot when you happen to miss and blow one of the mounts apart.

In addition to the one already named.... there is a youth camp in Washington that is supported by the sales of steel plates. They have sales 1-3 times / year.

I just bought two AR500 1/4" Action Target Rimfire Dueling Trees from Optic Planet, very well made, much better then I expected.

And I also just bought ShootingTargets7 AR500 3/8" IPSC Static Silhouettes. Yellow zinc plated and also very well made. I plan to get second silhouette shortly. Decent price with available coupons.
I will be setting all of them up later on this week.
