Does anyone have experience with surplus Turkish 8mm?

Yes, I have. Shot hundreds of it. It was made for a light machine gun so the primers are extra hard. I had to get a wollf spring to be able to shoot the ammo. The brass can't be reloaded, they use a different primer type with 2 holes.

I do want to admit that I did not catch "Austrians", but one good thing to remember, with that War, and WW2, never say never.

Actually, I thought there would be more Austrians and Germans at Gallipoli, but apparently not.

Read a couple of books about Gallipoli, one by the British Commander Ian Hamiliton. He requested an aerial surveillance of Galliopi, and that was forbidden by Lord Kitchener. The Allies had no idea what was behind the beaches. The invasion was doomed before the Allied landed, and it took a half million causalities, between the Turks and the Allies before the Allies figured it out.

I have noticed in another post, some American's think the Turks are cowardly and easily bullied. Not so, they are tough as hell. And choosing Mauser rifles and the German 8 X 57 mm was a good decision.

I bought 900 rounds in 2001 from SAMCO for $60 delivered. Yes its hot, I believe most of mine was dated 1951 or 52. It was in bandos and 5 round clips so not made for machine guns. Never had a missfire or any other function issies besides a sore shoulder for a couple of days. I think about 70 rounds was the most I ever fired in a session.

I've fired a few hundred rounds in a German DUV gun fil brought back from WWII.

No issues, headspace remains the same and I noticed Turk is a bit hotter than other 8mm ammo. The pressure "analysis" here is interesting and fuels a little paranoia, but I have yet to see anyone reporting that Turk 8mm blew up a gun.

It's similar to the bravo-sierra about commercial v. mil-spec ammo in AR's.

Check for split necks. Learned this after having some gas in the face. '38 dated head stamps was much better quality. Late war '44 dated stuff had the split necks.

I've heard it can run pretty hot due to its age, is it still safe to use in a Mauser? does it misfire often?

It's functioned just fine for me in two vintage rifles. One is a Turkish Mauser, the other an FN semi.
