    458 socom mag question

    Great question!

Tony Rumore at Tromix (the gentleman who built the first .458 SOCOM and is the best in the country at building big-bore AR-15s) recommends Lancer magazines.

I've found that these standard aluminum magazines are fantastic; plus, you avoid any potential legal pitfalls in CA's "large-capacity magazine" (sic) scheme. These have the .458 follower in them, so if anyone tries to load .223/5.56 in them, they spit out the rounds. It's a true 10-round magazine, and labeled as such. Tromix also offers the labeled floor plates for them, which I grabbed.

Stay away from polymer (i.e., Magpul) magazines because they don't play well with the .458, or so I've heard from the experts.

I use both USGI mags and P mags, regular 5.56 followers, it is the way Marty planned it.

I use USGI mags with 5.56 followers. They work perfectly in my gun and never had a problem.

Same but I have 50 Beowulf, only thing I've had issues with is 100 5.56 drums.

Magpul mags work fine, but you have to modify them a bit to work. Cut a circular shape in front, and sand under the feed lips (upwards) with a circular shaft.

I also shaved the follower flat- a 20 round mag becomes a nice handy 7rd .458 mag.
