I'm considering getting Lasik for my astigmatism and am interested in hearing from people about their experiences. Especially when it comes to red dot sights did your experience improve, get worse, or stay the same after you had the Lasik procedure?

Astigmatism, Lasik, and red dot sights?

I too am interested but I thought some astigmatism isn't treatable with Lasik, only a doc can tell you if it can. I wouldn't get the cheapest option either, some people have said it has made their vision worse.
My buddies and I had a discussion on what you would rather lose sight or sound and I chose hearing.
I remember a write up someone did a bit ago:

I had an astigmatism and had Lasik. Now I have lots of problems, I wouldn't advise it if you can still get good correction with contacts or glasses. It's not worth the risk.Comment

have astigmatism and its been 21 years since my Lasik. Would do it again without any doubt. As far as red dots, I definitely get that halo or corona effect, especially when I turn up the brightness. On my T1, it does tend to obscure the target more as the distance increases.Comment

I've heard this alot, and even tried it myself with my astigmatism and it does work, but I fail to see the point. If I have to use the rear aperture, why use a red dot at all?Comment

Or just get a prism or scopeComment

Interesting, ive been considering upgrading my red dot for my AR, that is a good idea.Comment

An Eotech is cheaper than Lasik.Comment

My eye doctor recommended avoiding lasik.
I'm 51, near sighted, have astigmatism but can see up close really well.
After lasik he said I'd need reading glasses but would see distance better.
He asked me what's more important, being able to see my immediate area without glasses or something far away. Then he said something far away can't hurt you as easily as something up close.
I suppose if your wife looks like a bag of potatoes then seeing her blurry might be a worthwhile trade-off.
I chose to keep my up close vision and use glasses for distance.
I see red dots as a irregular streaks, not a crisp tiny dot which is why I don't use them.
My best iron sight picture is a square front post with rear peep on the receiver. Even with glasses I can make the hits out to pretty good distance. To get better I'll use a scope but no lighted reticle or dots, just sharp black crosshairs.

My boss had lasik at around age 50. Two years later she was wearing glasses again.Comment
