So I find this handgun on gunbroker from North Carolina. I Buy in now / checkout Paypal. The guy tells me he had some bad previous deals with Paypal and can't use them. Then he tells me he would like a direct deposit/ bank wire transfer. I asked to mail a USPS Money Order & he declined due to physical disability. So he sends me his info including the deposit to be made in a bank in Florida. Hmmm. I go to my bank & they say "don't do it". Direct deposit is like cash and there isn't any recorse or Buyer Protection. I declined the purchase due to too many red flags. I'm looking for someone to agree with me on being causious. Don’t do it. And how was PayPal ever an option?? -
Too many scammers out there. Don't risk it. Any time I see a red flag I walk away. Saves me from heartache and headaches later.Comment

There is no difference between USPS money order and cash, wire transfer, or Zelle. Once the money leaves your hands, it is gone forever. The myth that US Postal inspectors will ride to your rescue is just that. A USPS money order is as good as cash, otherwise no one would use it.
So the real question is, what is this Gunbroker seller's history: tenure, and feedback?
After confirming the seller account is worthy of a cash transaction based on tenure and feedback, you have to make sure the person using the account is not a hacker.Last edited by SkyHawk; 04-11-2021, 12:18 AM.Comment

no protection with paypal since they dont allow firearm purchases.TURNING and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

If you really think he will send it than ask for a picture.
Have him show the firearm with the screen behind showing the request from you.
The problem is he might actually have it and will sell multiple times and never send it.
It is a risk all mail order purchases have.
All my GunBroker purchases have been done before this seller market so less scammers.
Went out on a limb on a NR seller from Montana.
Ask him for pictures with slide removed, rear of barrel, frame with grips off.........
He understood I just wanted a good look "before" I even bid.
Yes, you can piss some sellers off but I would rather have them walk away than get junk or scammed.
How bad do you want it?Comment

GB has limited or no help if you have a problem. PayPal for a gun purchase? That’s making a bad situation worse. Watch out for sales tax,also. If you are purchasing from out of state,GB collects it from the seller thru your final price. Besure this is clarified to your local FFL who is receiving for you so you don’t end uppaying tax twice. Just sold two small items thru GB,both buyers screaming about the tax,which is based on the buyers address. One guy ended up paying an extra 12% based on where he lived.Comment

PayPal TOS = can not use for transactions involving firearms, firearm accessories, or ammunition.
If discovered violating this TOS = your PayPal account is frozen and your funds seized.
