    Carrying while camping...

I am going camping soon. The park rules on the outside of the park says "no firearms allowed" but when you camp isn't that your dwelling? and allowed to have a firearm in your tent with you? or does the sign of rules outside the park supercede this?

Any time there is a "No Firearms" sign, it wont turn out well if you get caught violating thier rules. The "Dwelling" argument would protect you....if not for the sign. There position, unless and until they get challenged in court will be.. "If you dont like it, camp someplace else"

So in all honestly with the rule or not would you still bring a firearm along? I mean I know no one promotes breaking any laws, I am asking no BS. you're going out with your family camping in a park in somewhat a remote area in OC. Would you or would you not carry?

I always have. My first priority is taking care of my family. Just be discreet and if something happens man up and let the chips fall where they may.

What park will you be staying at? Generally all State and Regional parks are a no-go for firearms.

I'd bring it, if I was hell bent on camping in a particular place. Otherwise, I'd go somewhere else. Thankfully, I don't have to deal with that when I go camping in VA. Guns are allowed just about everywhere. I do run into "No Guns" signs sometimes at stores. I just take my open carry gun and make it concealed carry before I walk in. No problems so far.

You mean like the remote camp grounds in Orange County where they have had multiple mountain lion attacks on people over the past 20 years? Hmmm... I'd either find one that allows them, or go elsewhere. Those cats up there are way too damned aggressive for me to go there with nothing more than harsh language. I tend to camp in the National Forests, and it isn't really an issue.

I also try to stick to national forest for the same reason.

I don't care what their freaking signs say, although obviously I am discreet and don't do any shooting in the park. A couple of months ago I went down to Death Valley and camped outside the park boundaries so I could sight some rifles in. I'm not going into any wilderness situation unarmed, and that has been my policy for about 33 years now. Usually I'm in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest anyway.

See that is one of the major reasons why I would plan on bringing one regardless. Those cats are just vicious. But its mostly just a cheap local quick weekend get-a-way thats why we are just going to a local park..
                        Thanks for the advice!

I wont camp where they do not allow guns. If I had no choice but to camp where there were no guns allowed, I plead the 5th on what I would do....

However, I think the very first lesson regarding guns and camping I learned when I was a kid in 1972. Even at the young age of six years old, I remember what happened to those dumbs**ts in the movie "Deliverance!"

For those of you that have not seen or dont remember this all important camping education film, do yourself a favor and rent it...(and for the full effect, make sure you get the unedited version)...then ask if you should take a gun camping....

The four-legged predators are only part of equation my friends.....
