Service grade Garand. Took about 3 months from order to receipt. Not bad.

Opened it up in front of my smaller kids. Springfield Armory built in the [s] summer of '43[/s] spring of '56.

Hash marks totalling 5 on the handguard.

I'm guessing one of the previous owners slotted [s]5 fascists or [/s]5 commies.

Pretty cool, eh?

The current batch of Garands is from the Philippine returns, so I'm guessing that he who notched it might have been using it against a variety of foes. But hopefully it was CPP-NPA.

I am going to install an adjustable gas plug and use it as CPA intended to teach the kids marksmanship. Now I'll need to put in for a deer or elk this year.

Here are some more shots.

I goofed, this one has a 4 million serial [4215XXX] and the tag I believe says 2/56. So I'm hoping it was put to good use.

It's a mixmaster, has an HRA bolt. Don't care, I got it to shoot. Might get a spare and send it to Tim Shuflin for a BM59 type conversion.

Very cool. Except for the stock the steel looks great, if it looks just as good on the inside you got a great rifle. It'll be a modern production, but an m1 is on my buy list. Wish I would of pulled the trigger on some of that some greek surplus 3006 that that was going for like $300 per 1000 rounds years back.

I'm confused by the "except for the stock" comment. I think it's excellent the way it is!

The GCA did an article on these rifles a couple years back. I'd pay extra for a certified Philippine one.
