    Muzzleloading Noob

I got my eyes on the Pietta and Uberti navy colts, and wooden furniture flintlock/percussion rifles. I understand these can be shipped to your door, but i would rather feel it in my hand first.

Can anyone point me to a shop with the biggest black powder selection in the Southern California area?

If not, maybe a gun show to look out for in or out of state? Cheers

I would think that the bigger stores like bass and sportsmans will have it. They'll be a little heavy if you get the full steel, full length ones. Mine is a 1858 new army and they said the handle is small. I am not huge so it fits fine especially with gloves.

Try to find a Spring black powder rendezvous in your area. The participants love to show off their stuff and would be happy to answer any questions.

Might also ask in the C&R Black Powder forum, http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/f...splay.php?f=84

Do you have any large revolvers or popular revolvers? Watch a lot of youtube to see comparisons for an oz to oz view. I will say that I was at the range and someone had a pieta colt and he couldn't get the cap to sit correctly on the nipple without removing the entire cylinder first. It turns out that they either didn't ream out the loading port enough or it's just designed that way. I use a dowel to seat them snugly so they don't fall off or misfire. I've had to sand/dremel the nipples from my Uberti because they are midsize between 11 and 10. I could only find CCI caps and one is just too big and could fall off and the other is too small and causes misfires if not SNUG against the nipple. I just didn't want to make the nipple too small for the 10s so I'm testing slowly.

Apparently on the colts, the caps blast off and could get stuck in the cylinder mechanism. On the remingtons, it's almost designed to fall away and if it gets in the cylinder you can turn it and force it to come out. Make sure you get a steel frame so you can use conversion cylinders and shoot 45c (see laws for doing so).

American gun works in Glendale had a pretty diverse selection when I was in there last.

Black powder events are the bang, so much to see and so many people to talk to. Never seen much on shelves , have to check out the Glendale location above.

Look around for a used stainless Ruger Old Army. It is a tank.
