I have the opportunity to pick up a Wilson Combat Tactical Elite and am curious what those who have one, or have shot one, think about them. Is it worth the $?

Hard for me to get past the Bubbles avatar.
I lose track of all the WC models, but my buddy has a commander sized tac elite I think. Professional elite maybe? Has the bushing-less barrel and all that stuff. Man it's a really nice 1911, really nice, and I shot it well... but did I shoot it $3,000 better than my Kimber? Probably not, probably not any better or any worse. I don't think it's any secret that I am probably not the level of shooter that will benefit from spending the extra $3K from an accuracy standpoint any more than a $10K guitar will make me a better guitar player, but I might buy one just because it's a nice gun.
Only you can decide if it's worth the money and why right? From a fit and finish POV, yeah, it's super clean, but again... it's your $3K.Buy made in USA whenever possible. -
Thanks for that - but it’s $4K+ with tax!
That’s where I’m struggling. I know it’s a masterpiece of craftsmanship and as close to an investment as a firearm can be.Last edited by plinker202020; 03-23-2021, 8:21 AM.sigpicComment

I have one in 9mm and .38 Super - Tac Elites are keepers for sure. "Worth it" is subjective I suppose. If you like nice things, well you wont be sorry having one...

I sent Wilson Combat a Colt Gold Cup frame and slide and they installed all the rest of the parts to make it a Professional Super Grade. This Cost me around $3,000. It's a way to get a Wilson Combat grade handgun without having to look forever for one. The fit and finish of my handgun is perfect, and it is more accurate than any other .45 that I have shot. It is a complete pleasure to shoot.sigpicComment

What are you going to do with that Paul would be my question.
I own a H&K P7m8 ( probably worth a couple of grand ) but i don't carry it, and I'll shoot it from time to time only.
It's reliable and hella accurate, but i only bought it to round out my H& K handguns..
They say that custom built 1911's are more smooth to shoot because of the dwell timing of being hand built.Vida Loca Homes

I have one. It's a soft shooting 45ACP pistol because of the heavy flanged cone barrel. I send the slide back to Wilson Combat for a new front sight because the factory one is tiny.
Is it worth it? Of course! Life is too short not to have a Wilson Combat.

Not that model but a Wilson CQB that I shoot USPSA single stack with. About 12 years old with I'm guessing 30 to 40 thousand rounds through it. I bring my Springfield that I had rebuilt by Wilson as a backup. The only time I've needed it was when my rear adjustable sight fell apart at the last shooting position on the first day of a 2 day match. Love my Wilson.Comment
