It just kinda disappeared after the Grendel and Blackout took off - it really is a good cartridge, but the parent brass and the caliber is less common and it was supplanted on either end by the other 5.56 alternatives.

Remington did offer their Model 7 in SPC for a time, and I think Howa did chamber their mini action in SPC, at least initially.

Closest I could recommend is CZ makes their 527 in 6.5 grendel.
Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.

There are better calibers to put in bolt guns. That’s why. But I hunt with a semi 6.8 and love it.

That is why I prefer the 6.8. Light recoil , and i can buy copper rounds. I already have MSR in 6.8, but when I hunt in CA I prefer to hunt with a bolt. I do not reload, so the 6.8 seems to fit.

Because the SPC 2 chamber is NOT the SAAMI standardized chamber design for the 6.8 SPC.
The big gun makers follow the SAAMI standards.

The SPC 2 chamber was created to solve the problem of plated lead bullets that were not strong enough to keep from obturating in the chamber neck before they got into the rifling.

Right, might as well go 6.5 Creedmoor. Much bigger ammo selection.

Just a question about the spc 2, can a person shoot spc2 in a spc camber, if not what risks is taken?

The throat on the SPC2 is longer than the SAAMI spec.
The longer throat lets the bullet move out further into the barrel while the pressure is building.
This allows hotter loads to be loaded BECAUSE the bullet is going to move out into the longer throat to make the case capacity larger during the powder burn.
This is the same way that Weatherby chambers and ammo are designed.

When you use a SAAMI chamber/throat with loads that were developed to be safe in an SPC2 chamber, the pressure is likely over the max pressure limits defined for the 6.8 SPC cartridge by SAAMI.

An AR-15 is a 223 sized action and the 6.8 having a larger case head diameter means that the cartridge has to be loaded to a lower pressure limit than 223 ammo in order to keep the bolt thrust at similar levels that the action was designed for.
A 308 action has more strength to be able to run it's native pressures with the larger case head.
A 6.8 case head falls between a 223 and a 308 so 6.8SPC2 in a 6.8 SAAMI chamber in a 308 action may not particularly be unsafe because a 308 action is so much stronger than a 223 action and the 6.8 case head is smaller than a 308 case head.

Thank you for clarifying that. What is your opinion on the Howa action.

No aftermarket or alternative parts availability.
You won't be able to get a 6.8 sized bolt or magazines made specifically for 6.8 sized cartridges.

I have been looking at the 6.5 Grendel that just about duplicates the 6mm ARC, and the 6.8 spc,. Yes it goes faster , the ARC, but the ballistics in the Grendel only drops a couple of inches more than the ARC and they do not load ARC rounds in copper bullets. This gun will be used to hunt, up to 300 yards, and 500-700 yard pinking. That mini action is really neat looking, and lighter to be humping around. I am planning on a 18” barrel.
The action looks like a better designed 700, come apart much easier for cleaning, sako style extractor, and the handle is one piece with the bolt. Mixed reviews on the web about the accuracy of the round though.

The smaller calibers are hurt more by shortening the barrel as smaller calibers depend on barrel length to make more velocity.
Larger calibers make their velocity quicker so they don't need as long a barrel.
You really need two different guns to do those two different jobs well.
Get a shorter barrelled 6.8 for hunting and a longer barrelled 6mm for target shooting.
The Howa is not as strong/safe as a 700 because of the sako extractor cuts the bolt nose wide open.

I do see the occasional Remington 700P chambered in 6.8SPC pop up for sale. Remington stopped making them in 2006.

They are still easy to build today though because you can buy a 6.8SPC sized bolt from PTG for a 700 short action.
Try that for any other type of action besides a 700 or a salvage...
