Big Reno Show is scheduled next weekend, but Truckee is expecting 7 to 8 inches of snow during the weekend. I like going to Nevada and would hate to miss out on these now rare shows. Any recommendations ?

No gun show is worth driving through icy and snowy conditions in the mountains in my opinion.Comment

No beef jerkey or dream catcher is worth that drive.Comment

Take Friday off, drive up Thursday after work. It's predicted to rain Thursday evening, not turning into snow until the wee hours of the morning. Little precipitation from Tuesday until Thursday should give the road crews plenty of time to clear the roads.sigpic

I doubt they will even let you in if you have a CA ID. Lots of douchebags have been trying to buy guns and ammo in NV. And people are fed up with it. Some shops in NV are checking ID at the door and turning away anyone with a CA ID, they wont even let you inside just to look around. They already have enough local customers.
I got an 03FFL and always wanted to go to the Big Reno show, but I doubt anyone there would sell me a C&R because they probably think its against CA state law, or they probably wouldnt sell anything to a Californian on principle, even if it is a legal transaction.Last edited by Tere_Hanges; 03-13-2021, 10:26 PM.CRPA and NRA member.
Note that those who have repeatedly expressed enough vile and incoherent content as to render your views irrelevant, have been placed on my ignore list. Thank you for helping me improve my experience and direct my attention towards those who are worthy of it. God bless your toxic little souls.Comment

I've been going for about 20 years, including the 2019 shows. They've never checked IDs for entry. I hit pretty much all the shops and same result. I've never had to show ID buying ammo in NV to include at the show or the local stores or Cabelas or Scheels, etc. I have a Type 03 FFL and haven't had any issues buying C&R eligible in NV stores or at the show. In 2019 I picked up a 2nd gen Colt SAA and a DGR reworked Garand at a LGS.I doubt they will even let you in if you have a CA ID. Lots of douchebags have been trying to buy guns and ammo in NV. And people are fed up with it. Some shops in NV are checking ID at the door and turning away anyone with a CA ID, they wont even let you inside just to look around. Whether the weather is agreeable or it's worth going in general, if it's not a good show because of COVID or timing - OK. But the points you referenced don't at all reflect my experience. Quite the opposite. Sure, some fellow shows up in his 49ers shirt and wants to buy the latest AR or case of Glock mags - probably won't happen. But for the most part, there are lots of CA residents going and buying with no problems.GOA Member & SAF Life MemberComment

Weather for Sat & Sun shows no snow. I planned on driving up early Sat AM and back Sun AM, maybe Sat night if the show was weak. Hopefully the CA drivers can keep their sleds on the hot top and not screw up the commute for us northeast coast types who grew up driving on a few feet of snow every winter.
Looks like there's another issue to deal with - tickets are good for 90 minutes per day due to COVID restrictions. Have to pick from a block of 90 minute slots each day.Last edited by dfletcher; 03-14-2021, 4:35 PM.GOA Member & SAF Life MemberComment
