Best way to ship ammo I already own?

Going back to visit my home town in NY. I know I have a few hundred miscellaneous rounds stashed away. With prices nowadays, i think it is time to ship this ammo to my residence in CA. Has anyone shipped ammo they already own? Go through FFL? Best method of courier?

The research i have done is all over the place.

    Basically:
UPS GROUND! Has to be freight- from NY ship to FFL of my choice in CA.

    Am i right?

Fly with 11 pounds which is allowed just put in boxes designed to hold ammo.
In locked checked bag. Anymore ups ground to yourself using orme-d cartouche on box .

Can't ship directly to you, as that would violate CA law (can't import ammunition.) It would have to go through an ammo vendor who accepts out of state transfers (and will charge a fee to do the transfer.)

That said, UPS should ship with the proper declaration (loaded ammo is not hazmat, but has to be declared due to the flammable content, I think. Used to be ORM-D - Other Restricted Material - but that changed recently.) Package it up, take it into a UPS shipping facility (not a UPS Store), and tell them what you have.

Bottom line: If it's only a few hundred rounds, it's likely not going to be worth it.

ups has an if it fits it ships option up to 50lbs. find the smallest box and use that option. much cheaper than weighing it out. i've been shipping ammo as low as $20 on my business account.

Find some good ammo boxes for it and bring it back with you.

Another question my friends ... If I were to have possibly have over 500 rounds… perhaps 3k total (hypothetically) Would that be acceptable to bring into California with the new law? Even if I already own it (no proof) lol!?

FYI 11 pounds is airline specific. Alaska Air will let you fly with up to 50.

Okay? Did some research, and found 11lbs by my airlines. Now since there is my wife, myself, and my 3 year old.. is that 33lbs?

The airlines may have a limit but.....in reality they do not care or check ammo. In fact it is NOT the airlines checking your baggage it's TSA. They are not in the business of enforcing someone sees rules. Just be reasonable (what-ever that means?)
