Reserialzed Long Gun: FFL or no?

I have a gen 1 KelTec Sub2000 40S&W. I love and hate this thing. It is fun and love the formfactor. However, it has always had FTE issues. I think I've done all the tips and tricks that I could to find to fix the issue but none has worked.

Talking with a FL FFL that does customizations and repairs on S2Ks suggested to mail it back to KelTec as they have a program to convert it to a Gen2.

Talked to KelTec, yes they do! The one catch I wasn't too sure about was they add an "A" to the existing serial number. They say that doing this does not add any other legal requirements on my part. They say there is no legal requirement to ship back to an FFL. They will mail it direcrtly back to me (with the added fin grip I asked them to do).

I am unseasy about adding the "A" to the existing serial number. Normally, changing or altering or removing a serial number is a felony. Because of this, I decided I will go through the FFL transfer process to protect myself.

Anyways, just seeing if anyone here knows for sure.

    I would trust them.
They are not going to jeopardize their business.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.
    I'm Back.
