I have had 4 smooth TRNSACTIONS AT BIG 5 FOR LONG GUNS. i HAVE THE SENSE TO CALL AND FIND OUT WHEN THEY HAVE PEOPLE SCHEDULED TO WORK WHHO CAN PROCESS DROS. OP WALKED PAST SIGNS STATING FOIREARMS MUST BE INSPECTED AT ENTRY SEVERAL TIMES.Comment

Note, Bass Pro or the company that owns it now owns Sportsmans.
Op said firearms plural but he didn't say how many. It is true that some FFLs can do it quickly, but they might be subject to more audits and error penalties. A big corp will limit their losses due to employee error and make them double and triple check with a supervisor.
Most of my single transfers take 20-30 minutes. I had a gun centipede transfer take 2 hours. I was transferring to to the second guy and he was transferring to a 3rd. Didn't know that was happening and the store took 2 hours. At least they had free coffee...Comment

Bass Pro was great for ammo or firearms that you order on their site and have shipped to the store. I was able to get a good supply of range ammo and a Buckmark last year through Bass Pro. There was no uncertainty about what ammo/firearm you'd get because you had already paid for it, rather than just showing up and hoping they'd have something in stock.
However, the wait times/processing times to pick up said ammo could easily be over 1 hour. The firearm was even worse because you'd need to show up between 8-9 AM just to make an appointment to do the DROS later in the day. NO biggie if you're from San Jose but a real pain if you're traveling from outside the SJ area. That said, the staff I dealt with there were helpful once it was my turn so I have no complaints about them.
I haven't been to Bass Pro recently because they've been pretty much 100% out of stock on ammo online since early January. I can't imagine that the situation has improved with regards to the wait times or availability in store.
Another option for PPT is Best Collateral Pawn in South San Francisco. That's a bit of a drive from SJ but they work by appointment and they definitely know how to do PPTs. I've done several transactions there without issue. Ask for Ron or Rowland.

LOL.. they have a 9 week waiting list... Trust me I have checked with all the small places. I have been using RMB in Milpitas but we decided to try Bass Pro as it was closer for both of us.
Sportsman's Supply off Camden - same area, couple minutes away, way more competent.Comment

I might be new here, but I have been around firearms and FFL's for decades. Circumstances on this transaction dictated that we try Bass Pro.. never again. Lol
Guys, looks like OP is relatively new. And though we have come to know better than to PPT at Bass, OP is in the right. Bass should do the PPT, and without making OP jump through hoops. This is another example of bad business practice and they should be outed for it. I had a similar unforgivible experience at OakTree years ago, and will never purchase from their gun store.
Hope you found somewhere else to go OP. In this day and age, the only votes that actually count are the votes done with your wallet. I suggest never doing business with that Bass location again.Comment

15 years ago when I was in CA it still took BP Cucamonga way too long for a silly ppt.Comment

9 week wait list my ***. My local shop has the same 6-8 week waitlist for PPT. They know NOBODY will wait that long, so instead of saying NO, they give you some ridiculous timeframe and make you say NO.Comment

Oh great, this means BP San Jose will put another sign in the window- next to the 849 already there...so they can point to it and scold you for not reading it.If you don't know where you are going, any road will take you thereComment
