    HK SP5 - California Legal?

If the gas system was modified to make to bolt action only, would it be legal to transfer it into California?

The modification would happen out of state, then transfer it into California. I am not too familiar with FFL transactions, but there must be a way to transfer it as a bolt-action gun?

If the length is an issue, one could easily create a barrel extension if needed.

You cannot do that because the law which grants roster exemption for bolt action single shot requires that gun never have been semi auto. It has to be made by the original manufacturer as a bolt action single shot to be exempt.

    https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/f...ctionNum=32100.

shall apply to a semiautomatic pistol that has been temporarily or permanently altered so that it will not fire in a semiautomatic mode.
That says the roster still applies if the modification is done to a semi auto pistol. That is how they closed the SSE loophole.

Hypothetical: if gunshop outside CA mag locked it with a fin, and I found a local gun shop to accept it, would that be a legal transfer?

            Thanks

Only if you are a roster exempt person (LEO) or are being given the gun by an out of state, direct family member. And no fin required, only maglock.

There is a reason these are selling for $7k+ here, and it's because getting them isn't easy.

CA assault weapons for pistols are similar but different than those for rifles and shotguns.

What may be legal for one category, may not be legal for another.

A "fin" or "grip wrap" can make a rifle CA legal, but will do nothing to change the legality of a pistol or shotgun in CA.

                    That said...

An out-of-state seller can modify it (H&K SP5) to be CA legal by installing a fixed 10 round magazine that can not be removed without disassembling the firearm's action or that is permanently installed in the firearm's magazine well.

That out-of-state seller can then ship it to a CA FFL dealer, but because of CA unsafe handgun laws, that CA FFL dealer can only transfer it to a non-exempt person (LEO, etc).

I thought intrafamiliar transfers were still gtg from out of state?

Unfortunately not because it's still not on the roster. They come up every now and then on the forums but are extremely overpriced, I got really lucky a LEO friend was getting rid of his and I only paid him what he paid for it, I wasn't looking at buying a $3000 firearm but I couldn't pass it up, had to explain to the wife.

Having an HK clone 9mm with a fixed mag is a PIA to load through the ejection port. IMO a waste of a good gun.

You could always make one into a 16" carbine model.

Buy one of these to extend the barrel
CZ EVO PDW BRACE, UZI, MPX, CZ Scorpion, EVO Brace, SB Tactical,cz scorpion telescoping brace,Faux Suppressor

Then have your SP5 shipped to Morgan for the barrel extension pin/weld mod.

NO!! You have TWO problems. First is the AW issue. For that you'd have to render it NOT an AW (can't use a grip fin on a PISTOL) And there is currently no workable mag lock for it. SECOND, it is an off roster PISTOL. So you have to get around THAT as well.
