how often do you clean your guns

Every week I go to the range and shoot a 100 rounds through each of my pistols. I usually clean the pistols when I get back and was wonder if this is just over kill since it's only 100 rounds.

How often should the pistol be cleaned?
Should it be calculated by the rounds through the pistol or a time frame or every time you shoot no matter the rounds.

I was taught to clean your pistols every so often even if you don't shoot them.

So just wondering what other opinions are on time frame vs rounds vs just clean it each time. What do you think?

You will get all kinds of answers from clean very time used to only clean when it doesn't function...I adhere to cleaning after every range trip regardless of # of rounds sent down range...a clean weapon is a happy weapon

i'm too lazy to clean after every use. i clean them when they start to get a little too dirty, based mostly on what the BCG looks like.

If you go every week and shoot 100 rounds from the same pistol, I'd clean it every 500-1000rds or so, and right before any long term storage.

If your guns are stored in containers or safes in a controlled environment, they can go many years between any inspection and re-coat of light oil.

I clean after every trip regardless of shot count.

Depends on what kind of firearm. AK almost never, AR a little more than never. CCW, probably less than I should. Revolvers, lever action, shotguns, almost never...

308, 6.5, 338 accurate guns, run a bore snake through it before each session.

Never. Literally only if they get rained on or dumped in mud.

I always do a clean after shooting. Deep clean ever feed months depending on the firearm. Black powder I clean very well after every use. They are not fun to clean

I run bore snakes through them after every range trip. I take them apart and clean and regrease it every four or five trips.

punch the bore, run patches until they come out clean then an oiled one, q tips and clp until I can't get anymore dirt and carbon. wipe 'em down with rem oil wipes. every time I shoot

The only time I actually "clean" are those occasions I disassemble a firearm:

                            1) Just to practice how to do it,
                            2) Then to understand how it works,
                            3) and to inspect parts for wear/damage, etc.

IOW, as long as it works I don't "clean" it.

More damage is done by excessive "cleaning" than by any other cause.
