Ammo Prices - Tulip craze, gun control, or monopoly?

OK, can someone explain what's going on with handgun ammo? $1 a round for .380? Almost the same for 9mm?

Is this covert gun control, a modern-day tulip craze driven by ongoing panic buying, the ammo companies working together to keep prices high, or . . . what?

Apologies if this is the wrong forum - I'm focused on handgun ammo at the moment but I'm sure rifle ammo is in the same boat, and I didn't find a thread on point. Thanks all!

You must not have attempted to buy ammo for the past year.
Started with the covid panic buy.
Then the "fiery but mostly peaceful riots" started, then that really drove things through the roof.
And now Xiden/Harris combo at the helm.

It's the perfect storm of panic buying. Supply will eventually overshoot demand. But that day isn't here yet.

Check out the Youtube videos on the topic. It is real and to stay for awhile. I'm lucky and have supplies to reload. I will run out but not in the next couple of years.

          1. Covid ruined the supply chains worldwide even down to raw materials
          2. Millions of first time gun owners worried about their personal safety.
          3. Gun sales are higher than ever in history.
          4. Manufacturers can't keep up with the crazy demand.
          5. Everything has gotten more expensive to produce due to #1
          6. Covid ruined the supply chains worldwide even down to raw materials

Rinse and repeat... It's not getting better anytime soon
My opinions are my own and do not represent the position of other companies I may be involved with.

Supply and demand, demand is only getting stronger.

Statistics represent the number of firearms background checks initiated through the NICS from November 1998 to January 31, 2026.

There are a lot of new shooters obviously.

But the real reason for anything like this out of the ordinary demand is simple. Human beings seek safety in numbers. When they see a “line” most want to get in.

I hope things will calm down instead of escalating into something requiring more ammo. The senile puppet shouldn’t even mess with 2A as this may trigger the big groups.

Pardon me, but have you just woken from a coma? How did you miss the events of past 14+ months?

I know it's bright and shiny, maybe even new to you... Resist the tin foil hat. It doesn't make anyone look smart.

Google "supply and demand". Also, read this: https://www.foxbusiness.com/lifestyl...acklog-billion It isn't just ammunition that is in short supply. Reloading components are also in short supply. Sheeple will be sheeple. They get scared and they hoard until there is nothing left for anyone, including themselves. This isn't the first time it's happened. Nor will it be the last. Learn your lesson and take note.
