    What i have and why

I look for quality i can afford. Not interested in hand built guns i will never buy.
    # one in my book is reliability. you do not need to spend a lot to get a good gun.
If i had to spend 700 on a 1911 i still would not have one. So i did my home work and bought a RIA M1911 FS tactical 45 acp for 500. I have owned and shot this pistol for more than six years. I have never had a problem with it. It is more accurate than i am. eats all brand of ammo including steel wolf . Cheap gun show mags work fine in it as well . i keep it clean and treat it like it cost me thousands.
Savage axis in 223, not even a accutrigger 350 bucks and a 200 dollar scope. Did a u tube trigger job and it breaks clean and smooth at 4 lbs. It will out shoot a lot of high end bolt rifles out their. Love this rifle. this is my 3rd savage and in my opinion nobody sells a more accurate rifle than savage.
Paid 450 for my S&W M&P AR15 slightly used about 5 years ago.Put a P 223 scope on it and it shoots right up their with high end ARs without all the problems with custom guns. Give me precision mass produced guns anytime.

My old early generation Mini 14 was given to me and no it is not a tac driver. But it is fun and very reliable. i would have no hesitation grabbing it to save my life.
Lastly my Chinese SKS reliable and with 500 rounds on stripper clips i am more than ready for SHTF.i have owned two AKs and i put the SKS way above them if all you have is simi auto.
i am interested in what you have and why.

No problem with anything you said until you put an SKS above an AK47. I have both and much prefer magazines to stripper clips. Why the SKS over an AK?

And, yes; I do know how to use a stripper clip properly.

That's a good opinion and I mostly subscribe to that. I even have an M1 Garand in 308 because I have other 308s and didn't want another die set/recipe.

I would modify your statement that the Savage, in your opinion, is the best bang for the buck. If you're a top tier precision shooter, everything is custom and few if any are mass produced Savage.

But yeah, cheap mass produced guns equals more money for different guns to play with, and ammo.

        And your newly acquired Mosin.
I don't have any modern expensive high precision firearms or optics either.

Don't/ didn't you have the Savage .22 as well?

I started collecting with one motivation - acquire the firearms that will best protect my family. So I researched to death and compiled a number of handguns and rifles that I considered to be the best quality for the price. Once I checked most of the boxes, I picked up a few just for fun.

Gucci Glocks and custom 1911s are cool, but at the bottom of my priority list.

                sight radius
never got used to shouldering a AK. seemed i could never get comfortable shooting it. i tried to love them and just gave up. Also one i owned was a Romanian and it seems nobody could install the front sight properly. not even close. Extractor was not heat treated properly and started eroding the end.
Had to take it apart and do my own back yard heat treat.
Maybe a quality imported or custom build AK would have been the answer but i just decided the SKS fills the bill for me.I got over the cool factor of the AK.
I tried the AK because i did not want to be another AR fan boy at my range. Glad i stopped worrying about it. Got my AR and that is my main SHTF rifle.
PS i did a tour in VN in 68-69 and lived with a select fire M 16 every day. After owning a military M 16 for a year i thought a civilian Ar would not fill the bill, it does.

That’s awesome. Reliable guns that you train with are the way to go and it’s always great to hear about “bang for the buck” choices.

Gave the Savage 22 to my grandson, it was the heavy barrel precision bolt version. That was my first gun purchase over 10 years ago. Still have a big 5 savage semi auto cheapo 22.

I am a defiant old fool , i live my life like it is still pre Obama days. When the gun grab comes hiding will not help. If you ever DROSed a gun they can ,will find you.
They will just make it a felony to lie about your guns . Most will comply, some will go to jail , some will die resisting. i doubt i will use the first option.
