    Stopbox?

The StopBox® is a portable instant-access handgun retention device that does not use batteries, electronics or external keys. The StopBox® hand gesture code lock is instinctive to use in the dark and under stress. Secure your firearm without sacrificing accessibility when you need it the most. Proudly made in America.

Anyone have any experience with these?

By the look of this, it seems like it trends too much toward "ease of access" and away from "security".

If a kid came across this it seems like it wouldn't take too much for them to get into it. I like the idea but unless I am missing something, it doesn't seem super kid safe.

Just a holster shaped like a box.

I don't see it meant to be left somewhere that a kid could have unsupervised access.

Yeah, I mean, it wouldn't be my plan to leave it out in the open.

But, I have to look at my son through the lens of my own experience, which was, "Wow, I am alone in the house for 20 minutes while mom at the store... time to poke around."

I don't think my son is at that stage yet, but kids WILL find stuff that we as adults dismiss as "pfft... no way he's gonna poke around behind that stack of comforters in the closet."

Why would you leave the box out when not at home? It isn't meant to be a small safe.

Would you leave a holstered gun out in your example?

I use it. Perfectly fine for my use case. Quick access to my firearm without unnecessarily exposing it...

Kid safe? My kids are educated and trained for their age.

YMMV - as some people would ditch the StopBox because it doesn't meet their needs... Long story short - it wasn't meant for a hard comprehensive security, ie., it is NOT a gun safe.

When did I say I would leave it "out"?

Or, to keep the conversation productive, do you consider "not locked in a safe" to be "out", full stop?

If kids were in the house alone and I was out somewhere, I would consider anywhere but locked in the safe to be "out". They will find 'em eventually.

                  K, makes sense.

That is what I am getting at. I'd like to have something that could reliably NOT be in the safe if I leave for a short while.

Sounds like this is not that thing.

Big question: IS there such a thing? A reliable kid-proof case that works sort of the same way as this in terms of ease of opening? Researching this more, it looks pretty flimsy in terms of construction anyway... someone could probably just twist it open enough to extract the gun without unlocking it in the first place.
