Not to sure about this.
But as per the doj a pistol grip below the exposed part of the trigger,
On a ar style receiver. no factory hand grip below the trigger, cut flush to act as a keeper for the safety spring, but with the thumb wraped around the back of the trigger guard, as this places the web of the hand above most of the
exposed trigger.
Nothing to 'grab' with the hand,
How does this work out?

as the web of the hand is above the working trigger. No way to grip as in a pistol grip. Only the thumb and web can touch the receiver. The index finger on the trigger.
No other fingers can grasp the receiver, or any part.?????
