Colt Match lower convert front pin, push pin

I just called Evans Guns in Southern CA to see if they would convert a Colt Match Target lower front pin into a standard push pin. The girl on the phone said " No, We won't do it"... I remember asking Evans about 8 years ago and they said they do it, just need to bring the SB23 papers with me.

Also what was interesting is I asked about purchasing an EOTECH. She said they only have Law Enforcement models in stock. I asked what the difference is, she couldn't tell me.

What are my options.. Is there another legal place that can handle RAW's in southern CA?

I'd call and ask to speak to someone else. I'm pretty sure that almost every model of EOTech says "For Law Enforcement / Military Use".

      1. Never deal with Evans.

      2. Changing out the Colt front pivot pin ('fixed' screw) to the standard push design is a DIY job. Takes all of a few minutes.

As long as you're there when it happens, couldn't this be a job that any gunsmith could do?

That's what I thought... this is why I'm a bit confused.

          Thanks.

You're correct here and I would feel better if it was done immediately in my presence as anything could happen to my RAW lower. I'd never be able to replace it!

Is Evans considered a friendly Calguns store?

Wouldn't I need to drill into my Colt Receiver?

No. I've only heard really bad things about them.

                  Good policy.

                  Here's what you should do.

PM Ar15barrels...do a search for his name, he's in here all the time. He's an AR barrel manufacturer, and should have the setup to do this. His shop is in the West LA area.

He does outstanding work...I've taken two ARs to him for various things, and wouldn't go anywhere else for rifle work.

Are you trying to change out a Colt front pivot pin with the threaded screw design (but is standard diameter)? Seriously. It *is* a DIY job. They used Loctite for the threaded pin into the 'bushing', but it comes out with a regular screwdriver. Just unscrew it. Get yourself a new front pivot pin, detent, and spring from Brownells or wherever, and that's it.

I did this on my Colt Sporter awhile back.

I've taken the scew apart many times. My understanding is, you have to drill a hole for the spring and detent????

I certainly hope not. I never did. When I get home, I'll be happy to take a photo of my Colt Sporter lower.

Oh and YES... it is the standard diameter.

I apologize for the chromatic aberration. Not very optimal conditions for the photo.

Anyway, that's a Colt lower. Note where the detent is? The hole for that should exist on your Colt lower, even with the Colt threaded/screw front pivot pin assembly. There's simply nothing (no detent or spring) in the hole out of the factory.
