    Sad...Ammo burned in House.

So I cant find the link, but I heard two days ago that a guy here in CA had his house burn up somehow and all his ammo thousands and thousands of rounds) in the house was burnt along with it. They said he was a dealer, but it why would he keep his ammo at his house? Hoarder? Anyways, it was sad to see all the ammo burnt!!

I heard it was over $100k worth, also possible criminal charges. Why? I don't see how. A Vietnam Veteran too!

He was a commercial reloader and had a very large home lot with lots of setback between structures and the sheds. Looks like he had all the required permits in place and recently passed a fire dept. inspection.

It was his retirement business and I feel for him.

From what the guy said when he was being interviewed, he had permits for up to 200lbs of powder and was inspected approx 1 year prior.

During the same interview, he stated that this was a "habit that had gotten out of hand". Was he actually a dealer?

The interview showed him in front of a huge smoldering pile of stuff, but it looked like he was using shipping containers as his storage shed(s).

It was tough to tell, but I did not see any sort of vents on those cans.

There was a guy in Anaheim a few years back that had the same storage set up (without vents), and his ammo cooked off too (no powder, though).

either way, I predict this will somehow drive ammo prices yet higher...

Nah, this guy was Kes's neighbor. It was his retirement business, he went to gun shows selling his reloads. I doubt his 100k rounds are going to adversely affect the overall ammo situation for the summer.

cant be too sure...seems like everything affects ammo prices....

so, he was selling reloads at the shows? then he was a licensed manufacturer?

That was the way I understood it, but I am not sure. I will see if I can dig up the other two threads here that talk about it. One of them was started by Kes at the scene on his netbook.

the anti movement will no doubt want to restrict home ammo storage to 50 rounds per person.

in 2001 my place burned down and I warned the firemen that I had ammo in the house as they went rushing in. fire never made it to that location though, but they did take note of it.

I met him at the Glendale Gun Show. He was always on the bottom floor in the southeast corner. I don't remember him selling reloads at the shows, mostly vintage reloading equipment... and maybe some old military ammo, but I know he would make ammo purchase deals at the show. I was going to buy a bucket of .45 brass from him when I ran out, but I haven't yet.

Nice guy, I feel for him as well.
