    Happy Birthday...

    ...to John Moses Browning.

Life's journey is not to arrive safely in a well preserved body, but rather to slide in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "holy schit...what a ride"!!

Two John Moses Browning stories I remember...

One time when he was shooting with his brothers he noticed that the tall grass, that his family was shooting through, moved with every shot. He surmised that he could use that gas's force energy to cycle the action on a manual repeating firearm, making it a fully automatic or semi-automatic gun under its own power.

The other one was that he thought that pump / slide action was superior to lever action designs.
He should know, he was the main person coming up with most of the early actions of both of those types of designs.
I think it had something to do with the fact that you could keep your trigger hand and trigger finger in a steady location on the gun and possibly you could shoot easier from a prone position.

I definitely prefer a slide gun v. a lever action.

Some JMB Museum, Ogden UT, goodness.

By the way, the museum also houses Browning's car collection, which was beautiful.

              Gah! I'm a day late!

My 31-year-old son was born January 23, too. Something to remark on, since most of my favorite firearms were conceived by The Master. Those, and of course Marlin lever carbines in addition to JMB's wonderful 1892.

On my way to Montana, June 2019...
