Have rem 700 with houge overloaded stock that was painted(badly) by previous owner. Thin coat rubbing off, question is will removal fluid, turpentine, acetone, etc damage the rubber? Never done it before, so just wondering best method, thanks for thoughts

How much time and treasure will it cost you to clean up the stock? MSRP on the Houge Overmolded Remington stock is $150. During decent sales I’ve seen them for $120, but it isn’t likely to be on sale during the current craziness in the firearms marketplace. -

I'd try Simple Green first, I've seen it remove a lot of different finishes without damaging the underlying substrate. Multiple applications will more than likely be needed, soak, rub with an old piece of terry-cloth towel.

Citrustrip works great. I just stripped a Winchester Model 70 Synthetic stock with 4 different coats of paint and a Model 70 wood stock with two layers spray paint and layer of clear coat and it did not harm anything.
