    STI Staccato P Mag Release

So I got my hands on a new 2011. My issue is the mag release, I must have short thumbs or this mag release is a bitch to reach for everyone.

Any of you come up with any solutions as far as a replacement? I called Dawson and STI, neither have anything to replace. STI did say they are looking into it and have had a ton of calls for this same issue.

Won't aftermarket doublestack mag releases work on it?

        Yah something like that.

2011 is the first 1911 pattern handgun ive had so far.

The coaching I got was to slightly “flip” the gun in your right hand, from the shooting grip position, to a position where your thumb can manipulate the magazine release, and that extended release button can get pressed by accident by your support hand thumb.

Good luck, congrats on the new toy

            Solution: Wolff Precision Gunsprings 27170

I too had the same problem with my STI Staccato C and STI suggested to me to purchase a pack of magazine catch springs, Wolff stock number 27170. It worked for me and now I can easily drop the magazine without canting the pistol.

I also see that there is an Ebay selling selling this spring kit at the moment for $14.99. The pack comes with 5 springs of varying tension and the one that worked best for me was the one labelled #4.

            Here's the Ebay listing:

In order to release i have to waaay over do breaking my grip. My thumb barely touches it, spring swap aint gonna help much.

Would a double stack 1911 release be a straight swap? Seen a handful of extended release buttons for those like one of the other guys above suggested

A standard 1911 release is not long enough for a 2011 frame.

There are plenty of extended releases that accommodate a larger button. SSI has quite a few. https://speedshooter.com/product-cat...agazine-catch/

Just beware using extended releases have some downsides. Your support hand can sometimes hit the button and drop your mag while you are shooting. I've seen plenty of people release their mag at matches while picking the gun off the table.

Gen1 STI and Gen2 Staccato do not interchange.
If you have a Gen2 Staccato with Gen2 grip the only aftermarket mag release available at this time is the 10-8 Performance for Gen2 ONLY.

If you have a Gen1 STI there are Dawson Precision extended mag release, add a button or paddle, or have the Gen1 grip reduction service, or aftermarket aluminum or steel frames.

If you have a Gen2 Staccato you can have a grip reduction service, 10-8 Performance mag release or Replace your Gen 2 grip with a Gen1 and have all the Gen1 goodies, but you can't put a Gen2 grip on a Gen1 STI frame without mods to the frame. Aftermarket aluminum or steel frames should fit the Gen2 Staccato frame.

Damnit where were you a few hours ago.

Even the 10-8 looks like a stock gen 2 release with some knurling. Might just drill and tap the one thats on there and try and fit one of those tabs on there to reach towards the back of the grip

Use your left thumb to hit the magazine release.
