Who/what is making ammo/primer shortage worse?

We all know it's a combination but what is to blame for the continued shortage?

I think the election/covid started it all by creating the panic buying of guns and ammo on top of probably losing production capacity for a period of time. Then the new gun owners and the panic buyers/hoarders continued the run on ammo and production capacity has ramped back up but is maxed out and can't keep up with the demand.

The shortage will end when more production capacity is added (not likely in my opinion) or people stop panic buying/hoarding

As with other times we've had shortages, I believe that only a small portion of "gun owners" actually collect sufficient amounts of ammo to shoot regularly. I believe the "silent majority" of "gun owners" simply have a box or two for a small number of firearms that they don't shoot with any regularity. The problem begins when suddenly the "silent majority" and an influx of "new gun owners" suddenly want to load up just like the minority of us "regular shooters" (you know, the ones with huge caches of arsenals and so-on...).

Nicely put. I remember before 2020 I had to go to different stores to get primer brands and spp too so a perfect storm has hit and we're just going to have to hunker down. I've been through ammo shortages but not a component shortage because I haven't been reloading in bulk for that long only because I shoot more now. I've only overpaid $40/k for 3000 primer and a K of 55g 223 for $100. I'll be ready next time.

Primers shortage has to do with the ammo shortage. Learned this in 2013, so I have stocked up. This will pass in probably 2 years if there is not another event that the dems and media can manipulate into some kind of ban, if that happens the cycle continues until we own the house or the senate.

Hoarders and gougers and loaded ammo as priority to the manufacturers.

So the shortage is due to demand.

The demand is due to people buying in response to a concern that they may not get what they are buying in the future.

You alleviate the concern by making it known that the high demand item is going to remain available.

In the case of primers and ammo, you do something like removing gun and ammo control off the political table. Say a SCOTUS decision that equates guns and ammo accessibility to the same standards as voting accessibility.

The sad thing is... just like with toilet paper back when this all started - I refused to be "one of those people" and didn't horde/stock-up.

Well... fast forward a few months, having depleted all my Chipotle napkin reserves, now I'm "that guy" scrambling to find any toilet paper... anything at all... perpetuating the panic buying phenomenon.

                    Same goes for ammo...

ammo shortage is due to casual shooters too.

Typical gun owner has maybe 300 rounds onhim. He just goes ot walmar t on the way to the range or desert because he knows it's there all the time. Better to buy smokes and booze or pizza. Maybe make a car payment. Now that there is demand all those guys that want to shoot a little eveyr few weeks can't just stop at walmart anymore.

I was the same way. I only kept enough ammo here for my rentals and personal use. But I bought 20,000 rounds monthly for that and kept a stash for just in case. Before covid I got tired of storing all my 22 since i stopped shooting it. I sold off over 100,000 rounds of it. Kept about 20,000. WHen my kid burns through 500-1000 rounds centerfire a week I cannot just go to walmart to buy ammo on the way to the range. Man reason i got him into long range. 20 rounds lasts 2 hours.

My dad made me buy any ammo I wanted to shoot.

Who's to blame? Pantifa and blm. Gun sales were normal until the riots started. You can throw worthless dem mayors and governors in there as well. If they had stopped the rioters at the beginning it would've ended quick. A rioter in jail isn't going to start a chop zone.

The primer shortage is caused by Calgun members that hoarded AKA " stocked up during good times " and refuse to sell their excess stash at normal prices 33 bucks a brick to new reloaders
Old problems are like dry poop, if you let the dry poop sit it doesn't smell but the minute you decide to stir the poop with a stick, the smell comes back. Moral of the story, Don't bring up old problems!

And think about it this way, if it wasn't for Calguns hoarders, they wouldn't even have had the planning and infrastructure to have a portion no matter how small to making components. So after this run, we all need to hoard, keep manufactures on their toes.

It's the same as gun and ammo shortages...it's the buyer's fault 100% of the time.
