Compton Gun for Gift Card Exchange

Folks, its that holiday time of year again. Compton and the LA County Sheriffs will be continuing their "guns for gifts" program again. Though, this year they are only offering $50 per gun instead of $100. Thought I would pass this along for anyone who has any worthless junkers.....

    drc

    Guns For Gifts

Starting this weekend, Compton residents will have the opportunity to exchange guns for gifts -- no questions asked -- as part of a city-sponsored effort to reduce violence in the area.

Personnel from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Compton Station will collect firearms in the parking lot of the Circuit City/Ralphs Grocery shopping center at Compton Boulevard and Alameda Street during the next three Saturdays beginning this Saturday, the sheriff's Compton Station said in a statement.

Participants will receive a $50 gift card to Circuit City, Ralphs Grocery or Toys "R" Us for each gun turned in.

About 400 guns were turned in last year. The guns eventually will be melted down at a foundry in Rancho Cucamonga in July, except for a few of the showier ones, which are rendered inoperable and used in demonstrations.

Last year, when Compton had the highest homicide rate of an Los Angeles County city.

Let all go there, bring a FFL dealer, and offer them $100 per gun. Wouldn't the cops love that

We would get better deals then estate sales

Would be nice, although you'd have to pass on the occasional full-auto MAC11 or sawed-off shotgun.

Oh sure but we could find some really great guns in the bunch

That's the best idea yet. Wonder if the cops could even do anything about it as long as the ffl dealer was following the law

I wonder what percentage of these are actually legally owned. I'm sure the purpose is to get people to give up illegally owned firearms.

I've actually done it before, luckily I go the 100 last year. I wrote an extensive post on it on www.thehighroad.com if anyone wants to do a search on it. I post under moonclip and the thread is callled like Compton christmas eve gun exchange.

You are only allowed to do one gun per person but I do have an old beater I'll be bringing this year too probably, the 200 I got last year saved me $ to buy more guns!!!

Man, I wish they'd do that in San Jose.
I have this old Carcano that is so screwed up, the shops here laugh at me when I try to trade it off. They point at me and tell the other patrons that I'm trying to sell it and they jeer at me too.
Its very damaging to my self-esteem.

I try to point out to them that the Warren Commission Report declared Carcanos the fastest, most accurate rifles ever made in the history of the world. That this rifle can do head shots on a moving target from elevated positions at several hundred yards and can also do zig-zag shots that enter, exit and then re-enter the body.
At this point they start throwing things at me and the shop owner starts to curse at me.
                  My poor Carcano...

Hey if its good enough to assasinate a president in a moving vehicle, from a the 6th floor of a building by a nutjob... its decent

I'm sure you could pawn it off on a collector for $150 at least.

I once took it to a local gunshop to trade it in and the owner pointed to a cardboard drum with more than a dozen Carcanos tossed in it. I just stared and I am not kidding when I say tossed-- some were muzzle up others muzzle down just dropped in that bucket. If there is a more disrespected surplus rifle than an Italian Carcano, I haven't seen it.

What if I showed up with a $50 gift card from one of the sponsers and demanded a gun? I bet I would get a good reaction!
