Fixed Iron Sights on AR15 + Red Dot?

Any feedback on this setup from those who run it? Pros/Cons? I'm feeling absolute co-witness...Pros/Cons?

I already have an irons only setup and one with an Acog with flip up BUIS.

Want to equip a BCM Recce. I'm thinking:

Scalarworks PEAK/Fixed Iron Sights + Scalarworks LEAP/Aimpoint Micro Mount (absolute co-witness) + AIMPOINT Micro T-2

    OR

Scalarworks PEAK/Fixed Iron Sights + EOTECH

As always, any input is appreciated.

    what do you prefer?

I have fixed sights on my ar pistol and prefer to use the lower 1/3 mount. It was less busy than absolute cowitness.

On my ar's with flip up BUIS, then i run absolute.

btw, those scalarworks sights are awesome. If i had some money to burn id get those but my DD fixed work just fine.

Does the higher mount on the 1/3 stick out a lot? Snagging, etc.?

I guess I could go with more flip up BUIS on this build, but was looking forward to the fixed.

I prefer lower level 1/3rd on my dissipator rifle that runs a FSB and flip up rear iron

I know a lot of the new hotness prefers ditching irons. But I still like shooting with irons.

I think it would depend on your red dot and how big the window is. With my MRO I can see my front sight quite well and if I ever forget to change the battery I can still use the irons.

The benefit for me without using an absolute co witness is that my irons don’t get in the way of my red dot.

But if you shoot a lot of prone I could see the benefit of absolute co witness. I used to run absolute co witness. Zero in the irons at a 100. Then slave the red dot to the front sight and then confirm zero.

One of my rifles is still running absolute co witness but it has flip up front and rear sights

Also on a side note I find that I don’t have to tuck my neck in as much so I have a bit more of an upright position. I have not tried the 1.93 mounts but am curious to see how they work out

The spacer on my Holosun 510 for 1/3 co-witness is a little less than 1/4". So probably not a bit deal in terms increasing the risk of snagging. I do like 1/3 better than full as it gives a bit more room around the dot/circle.

Absolute co-witness for me as well, I usually run standard front FSB with the
            LMT rear.

I run them on an old fixed sight upper, I don't really have any issues with cluttering the sight picture or anything, Even with absolute cowitness. Note that is just with a red dot.

However I don't see really see a point to running fixed sights on a free float rail as back ups. I do prefer a clearer sight picture especially when running a circle dot a la eotech

I like the flip up co-witness. I have no use for them unless the dot goes down.

I have the holosun 510 with the riser. It is a big optic, but not as big/wide as the eotech. I havent run it in a class yet but I dont think itll snag much. Not many edges to it that can get caught on things.

If i had to do it again, id get a micro red dot sight like the vortex crossfire 2. That thing looks tiny and slick. If money was no object id get an aimpoint t2 or something like that.

ETA: I have a vortex sparc on my fighting rifle with the high mount and it has never snagged on anything.

Hi OP, personally, I don’t want the front sight cluttering the sight picture of the dot so if I had fixed sights, I’d go lower 1/3 co-witness

Nice choice on T2. Buy once cry once.

I’m deep down the rabbit hole now...have an Eotech EXPS2-0 coming on Friday but have been thinking about the Trijicon MRO. I like the build quality and durability of my Acog so this might trump the T2 if the Eotech doesn’t pan out.
My $0.02, I like having the circle (like on eotech), to be able to use the bottom of the circle on closer cardboards vs having to guess the hold over on a “dot only” sight, but the battery life is a bit low, so an aimpoint pro/trijicon Mro that you can keep on is nice for HD.

I guess it just depends what you’re using the rifle+dot for

Currently running a red dot zeroed for 36 yards with 45 degree back up irons zeroed for 100 yards.

+1 for absolute cowitness. Makes sense to me. If the red dot ever doesn't work, I don't have to think about where the red dot would have been when shooting
