AR Maglock

I am in the process of swapping out the Juggernaut Tactical Hellfighter compliance parts to Maglock.

It should be pretty simple. Watched the videos, read the instructions. Somehow I was having problems tightening down the set screw to keep mag release in place. The mag release kept coming off the mag catch.

I finally got it to work but it took several attempts and a lot longer than it should have. What am I missing?

Other observations:

• If the mag catch's spring guide was pre-drilled and tapped, then the set screw would keep the mag release in place.

• The set screw is too long. I do not want to drill it to make it permanent install.

Yeah, because of the different tolerances on the number of different products that are out there, some have to be "tuned". My kingpin had to be sanded down a bit to go smoothly in and out, otherwise it would just get stuck. My friend has 2 of these and he had to dremel his a bit. Sometimes the screws that are sourced just aren't up to par and QC just assumed it would fit. Dremel has been instrumental in a lot of my gunsmithing.

try using a 1/16" allen wrench vs the one provided. it might be slightly out of spec. People have reported that this solved the tightening down issue.

Also the longer set screw engages more threads then the shorter one so you're able to get more leverage to tighten it down.

Thanks for responses. Two more ARs to do. Staked castlenut is a pita. Replacing the rear pin with a dual purpose pin on all the ARs.

I wanted to check out the Maglock. They both have their pros and cons.

Due to variances and designs of AR-15, the Maglock worked on a couple of ARs while the Juggernaut bolt catch replacement worked on the POF P308 and the Maglock would not.

As far as rear takedown pin replacement with either brand, I decided to use one Maglock dual function pin on one AR only.

I'll either sell the remaining Juggernaut and Maglock kits or keep them as spares.

So now I have two different systems. Was hoping to standardize.
