The horror! Estonia destroys Makarov and Tokerev pistols

Part of some UN treaty I assume, would have made some $ selling these instead to folks in the US.

They'd have made a LOT of money selling those here in the U.S. UGH!

From what some people have said on the matter since this is actually old news is that they did it because H&K offered them a deal to destroy their surplus in exchange for newer model pistols so they wouldn't have to deal with the added competition of affordable comm bocs hitting American shores.

                  That's just a shame.

Worse is the destruction of SVD's in IRAQ by U.S. forces.

Something tells me those are just warm and fuzzy "feel good" PR crates of small arms and the rest of them are being grey marketed as we speak.

                      Why is this worse?

Think about it for a moment. Those SVDs can't legally be taken out of the country in the first place, so it's not like they'd be put on the market here anytime soon.

I have no issues with US troops destroying sniper rifles over here. Any local seen with one is automatically presumed to be a combatant, since the only purpose they serve is as a sniping tool.

The essence of Western civilization is the Magna Carta, not the Magna Mac. The fact that non-Westerners may bite into the later has no implications for their accepting the former.

EDIT 2020: To be fair that seems to apply to many Westerners also.

Parts for an SVD made with a new U.S. receiver and barrel marketed here?
Why? Because they're extremely rare rifles. I do agree with you about taking them off the streets of Bagdad.

They can't bring the rifles into the US, but I'm sure a few of those gold-plated parts would fetch a good sum.
