    Intrafamilial Transfer

If a dad wants to transfer a handgun to his daughter can they go to an ffl place and do the paperwork or does it have to be sent in to the doj directly?
Do both gather and daughter have to be there?

Where are dad and daughter residents?

If both in CA, no FFL needed. OPLAW form or CFARS action.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

No FFL needed, it'll cost you more that way.
Either download and send it this form https://oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/a...rms/oplaw.pdf? or create an account in CFARS here https://cfars.doj.ca.gov/termsOfUse!...yTermsOfUse.do
and do it online. $19 or $47 to do it at an FFL with the added bonus of a 10 day wait, your choice.

If they are both CA residents they could go to an FFL and do a PPT, wait in line at the shop, pay the fee, wait 10 days, and then go back to the shop, wait in line again, and pick up the gun. Why on Earth would dad/daughter do that? Intrafamilial is a mail-in with a nominal fee. No dealer, no wait, no driving around.

If both CA residents, see above.

If dad is not a resident of CA and daughter is...
Dad can have his FFL send the handgun (no threaded barrels, 10rd max) to the CA FFL, with a gift note and a copy front and back of his driver's license.
The CA FFL will then transfer the gun and there is a 10-day wait for daughter to pick it up.

*Daughter should confirm first with the FFL that they will do the transfer.
          Some won't do it.

*Dad can also send without the use of an FFL, but sometimes the receiving FFL will only accept shipments from another FFL.

The transferee needs a FSC and there is a box for the number.
