I know a guy that figures everything he sells is worth more, just because he's so special. If I wanted to sell the exact same thing, it's worth much less. It's not a bargaining thing - he's just very special and his stuff is worth more because he owned it. (he's a royal PITA)

This EXACTLY!!!! We clamour and fight for what is denied to us. It is our nature. This is a good thing.

After relocating to Utah where I can have anything, the thrill has subsided. Binary triggers? No problem. Suppressors? At your local gun store. In stock.

Full auto? Easily obtainable legally but can't afford it, so no thanks.

Ammo? NO! Same here as anywhere else, but we all reload, so no problem.

Moral of story is it is human nature to want things that are denied to us, for EXACTLY that reason.

Ammo pricing:

The retailers have got very little stock to sell, so whatever they have in stock, they have to make as much profit on as possible.

It's like the price of masks and hand sanitizer last March - June: we sell both of these items, but our vendors were charging really high prices for them, we in turn were charging high prices to our customers.
Some of our vendors flew in huge quantities of masks, their cost then was 4 times what the selling price is now, and they're stuck with the stock. (I'm sitting on about 10,000 masks that I paid about 4 times the current market price, so I know all about it .) We've only got about 20 gallons of sanitizer left, and our cost was close to double the current market price.

I am surprised that more LE do not get investigated for selling off roster guns. Doesn't it seem like a straw purchase (not sure if this is the right term) if they are buying off roster guns with the intention of selling it?
