Has anyone here ever applied for an assault weapons permit.

    Gents,

Has anyone here ever applied for an Assault Weapons permit? For personal use ? Not for business use? Say for target shooting? The only thing between a regular citizen and AW is a permit, a $10 pistol grip, and a $2 flash hider. But there is an application, live scan, $32. What if regular citizens applied in numbers, and the state denied on good cause grounds. Maybe another legal avenue of attack. A2

Never hear of anyone applying as an individual. What would be the cause / need for the permit?
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

I read the states definition of “good cause “ manufacturers development of new products, instructional use i.e. research or a library of firearms. What was interesting was #4 manufacture/possession for use as props, for movie and television production.
        Hmmmm, something to think about.

Why do movie companies get to have them and we don’t? Is it a 1st Amendment issue? A2

Of course not. It's a money issue, supporting the film/entertainment industry so taxes can be extracted, and Hollywood types can make donations to politicians.

Need a viable good cause to be issued a Dangerous Weapons Permit for an AW. [PC 31000(a)]

Current viable good cause for issuance:
              A. To import, make, and transfer to Gov/Mil/LE agencies.
              B. For research and devlopment pursuant to a Gov/Mil contract.
              C. To make and use in the entertainment industry.
              D. For reparing and providing mantainence for Gov/Mil/LE agencies and DWP holders.

For "personal use" is not a viable good cause for issuance.

In addition, using the dangerous weapon (AW, DD, MG, SBR, SBS) in a manner that is beyond the good cause for issuance for the DWP is cause for the DWP being revoked and the DWP's inventory being confiscated.
Examples of use beyond the good cause are:
              A. Use in self-defense.
              B. Use in recreational shooting.
              C. Use in competition shooting.

Currently, in order to qualify for the entertainment industry good cause:
                1. You need to be a member of the union (IATSE).
                2. You need the backing and have contracts for several movie/TV production companies to provide props for them.
^The application process requires documentation of all this.

Anti-gun proponents bought off the entertainment industry to not oppose gun control laws by making them eligible for exemptions via Dangerous Weapons Permits.

Side note... anti-gun proponents have been shopping this concept (Dangerous Weapons Permits) to NV FFL/SOT (machine gun rental, etc) so they will not oppose major gun control push (assault weapon ban, large capacity magazine ban, NFA ban, etc) in NV.

It's so the Hollywood Special People can make movies with lots of shooting action and from said movies make lots of money that they can then use to promote anti-2A causes.

The same reason they can set-up a crew catering area in the same parking lot of closed outside dining small businesses.

To try to answer the OP's actual question. YES as a matter of fact one of the CalGuns founders actually DID make application for an AW permit. It was widely covered here on the board with at least one thread. As far as I know neither he, (nor most FFL's ) could ever get one.

The ONLY grounds upon which AW permits are issued are
                          1. Use in movie and TV
                          2. Demonstrated contracts for sales of AW's to LE and military. (of course how you get a contract to sell goods you can't possess until you get a license to possess goods you can't possess until AFTER you have a contract to sell those goods) is a question only CA law could cogitate.

OP there have been a lot of good answers here. I think what you're trying to do is essentially a pipe dream. Take your place with the rest of us serfs.

If it's that important to you, you might want to move. I'm sure a good out-of-state real estate agent would be a lot more effective than taking on the California DOJ.
