Shooting near Hesperia

Planning a range trip with a friend that moved out to Hesperia. What are my options near there besides Hodge Rd?

Lytle Creek range and Route 66 are right there off Glen Helen exit. I just came back from Route 66 this morning.

which do you prefer? ive heard about lytle plenty but never route 66 ill do some research but just wanted your opinion

Keep going past Hodge, Calico is better IMO.

Another unofficial option (and a lot closer) - If you just get off at the Dale Evans exit off the I-15 N and go left, a lot of people shoot there. I've done it. Clean up your trash.

Absolutely NOT legal there or the next exit which is Wild Wash Rd. Those are shotgun only hunting areas. Hodge Rd on the west side of fwy or go anywhere in Barstow outside the city limits and away from houses. All BLM land out there.

Even Hodge is technically not legal but so many people go there they gave up on enforcing it years ago.

This map is a PITA but helpful to find legal shooting places.

Hodge road if you get out there early. If not continue west on the dirt road several miles. Best if you have a four wheel drive. Nice spots with nice back stops. There is a back way which I have never used. I have shot off of 247 north of Lucerne Valley but that is way out there.

I've been considering a membership but now I go to some calendar events, Trap, Mojave Steel. The membership alone would be a wash with the money I spend on gas to go out further but the One time membership fee is around $200 and other expenses has put that on hold.

I am a member of Apple Valley Gun Club and I like it. Being retired, I go during the week and usually have the range to myself, especially early in the morning. That's the best time, anyway, as the wind doesn't usually pick up until later. Plus, it is only 15 minutes from home.

The facilities are constantly being upgraded however, and there aren't any babysitting range officers. It's one of the few things I miss from California, it was a great place to shoot and well worth the money.

Yes, AVGC is not a Nanny range and more like only 10 minutes from me. This year will likely be my time to join.

Also it's the only range around here that my wife feels safe at.

Off topic question, I'm planning on revisiting riverside indoor range after some years and I forgot if they do firearms check there. Anyone been there lately and know if they care about a firearms configuration?

Ammo check, ok. Safety check, ok. Configuration check, pound sand, going somewhere else.

Anyplace that does this will likely not even allow anything over 10 rounds, legal or not.
