Gun sales by state for 2020

Illinois is a good #1 this time! Tried to paste the list, but it came out like schit.

Life's journey is not to arrive safely in a well preserved body, but rather to slide in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "holy schit...what a ride"!!

The article does not mention per capita sales. I'm doing my best to pump those NV numbers up.

Before the AW ban and CA roster, CA accounted for 1/3 of all firearms sales in the USA.

Texas and other states that follow federal laws re: private party sales have much higher numbers. If my Texas PPT numbers were added to Hawaii's total, it'd move the needle and maybe bump them from #51 to #49. Don't even ask about stuff I've bought from pawn shops and LGS's.

I kid, but a couple of places call me when they get something they think I'd be interested in the was Bright Spot Pawn used to do back in the day. I miss those guys.

Not sure I believe the Illinois or Kentucky numbers. Arent there some states that run their CCW permit holders through NICS on a monthly basis?

If this is even close to accurate that puts 100M new firearms in circulation since 2016 and another 60M since 2013. I remember back in early 2013 they were estimating between 300-350M firearms in circulation. That would put us around 500M today or more than 1 firearm for every man woman and child in the country.

The next four years will make the last four years... well, buy gun stocks is all I can say.

                        Exactly.

A "sale" does not mean an additional firearm. If I PPT'd my entire inventory it would show "X" sales, but not account for my reduction.

Comparing this data against the ATF's manufacture/import data would be more of a reality check for what is actually "added" to circulation.

Availability is the driving factor for those numbers. I believe CA would be much higher if there was something to buy.
Would like to buy 357 Maximum ammo.

                            Exactly.

THE NUMBERS IN THE ARTICLE ARE NOT SALES NUMBERS. They are NICS numbers, which aren't the same thing.

The author of the article used NICS checks as a proxy for gun sales, but NICS checks are performed for other reasons including concealed carry permit applications/renewals. And Kentucky runs monthly NICS checks on all concealed carry permit holders. That's why Kentucky's NICS number is so high.

For years, Kentucky has led the nation in the number of firearm-related background checks processed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

There’s a reason for that, and it’s not a gun culture in overdrive.

Since January, the FBI has processed more than 2.9 million background checks in Kentucky, according to data from the agency. Each check does not necessarily represent a firearm purchase; however, background checks are commonly used as a measure of gun sales nationwide.

But outside of higher-than-average gun sales in the state, one reason Kentucky reports such a high number of checks annually — more than double the number of Texas and California combined so far this year — is a policy that requires automatic monthly background checks on every holder of concealed-carry permits in the commonwealth.

For years, Kentucky has led the nation in the number of firearm-related background checks processed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. There's a…
The gun industry's lobby, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) publishes NICS data that is adjusted for concealed carry background checks, etc. You can download it here https://www2.nssf.org/e/127421/NVSnS...t9llzl62jJR1qI

According to the adjusted NICS data, the top 12 states for gun sales in 2020 are:
                            1. Texas 1,224,754
                            2. Florida 1,072,763
                            3. California 801,398
                            4. Pennsylvania 691,619
                            5. Virginia 553,983
                            6. Ohio 531,302
                            7. Tennessee 487,930
                            8. Michigan 450,194
                            9. Missouri 433,830
                            10. Alabama 430,331
                            11. Indiana 419,891
                            12. Georgia 401,960

Notice Kentucky is not on the list.

Lazy article by a lazy "journalist".

                            .
                            Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.
